tri-state meet
What about DOUGLASTON PLAZA?
the Maxima guys had a meet there last month which turned out to be pretty cool.
But then again its a mall parking lot, I don't know how busy it will be at that time.

I am in...
Anyone interested in a cruise out east? We could meet at the Park & Ride at exit 63 and go from there. I have done this before with another club and it was loads of fun. About 120 miles and takes most of the day. Nice roads.

I look at DD when I go by but never see anyone. Where has everyone been hiding?

I'm going to start going out there more and meeting up with people more often. I actually am driving the car again until I can turn around one of the new Buschur 20G turbo mods..
Just so everyone knows, there are two Duncan Donuts on Deer Park Avenue (Exit 51 on the LIE) where I meet up with people periodically. Its not a big place but I try to get out there once in awhile. One of them is frequently overrun with SRT-4 guys, but the other one is quiet and friendly. I'm trying to find a new place where I can meet up with people on a regular basis thats a little larger and is also sympathetic to the car enthusiast.
I had given some thought to the Jillians parking lot sunday mornings, there is a great little bagel/coffee shop next to the Bed Bath and Beyond that might make a good place to sit down with a few people and talk shop (no pun intended)
Just a warning about Jillians, they are *NOT* car club friendly, and frequently when they find out about someone planning on getting together they either break it up, or send out threatening letters to the organizers. They apparently want to roll the clubs for large sums of money to even allow anyone to host any activity there. Their premise is "Security and Insurance reasons" which I can understand, but this is pretty typical of larger places on the island. HOWEVER if you are a customer of the establishments or show up before these places open they generally wont/can't bother anyone.
There used to be a great (Tuesday or Wed) car show "Get-together" in the Attias Flea Market parking lot, it was seasonal and I'm not sure if it still exists, its a bit of a hike for the queens and jersey folks..
Here's the problem with Long Island.. THE WEATHER in the winter.. Its a little too cold to hang out outside, so the key is to keep the groups fairly small, and under control (no messes, or showing off in the lots) if you can do that, and patronize the shops in the parking lots (small cafe's and whatnot to stay warm, buy coffee, spend money there) they will be more accomodating towards us.
The easiest way to ruin any gathering is to Race anywhere near the location, drive like a moron in the parking lot, leave a huge mess, or play radios very loud.. All of these activities RUIN the environment and make it a place where people are "Afraid" to enter.. The last thing you want to do is wear out your welcome. Plus it will **** ME OFF. I'm a car enthusiast, I am out to show off mods, share ideas, and meet people, arrange Garage days (where a few people get together and chip in their expertise to do installs on a designated car), if I feel uncomfortable or feel that it will draw undue attention, I'll just end up leaving and if its a regular event, stop showing up. (Everyone who knows and has met me in the past can vouch for this)
Just a few suggestions and pointers..
yea, as the organizer i really don't want anyone racing or showing off the parking lot... speakin of dpa i kno that dunken doughnuts thats infested with those srt4's. u also see a bunch of supra guys where i go an talk most of the time, my best friend has a supra so i go with him.. maybe we can go to parks? they have open lots
I just got back from Captree Boat Basin. Sunday morning is a regular event early in the AM like 8-10 AM. Many street rods, vettes and assorted imports and exotics. No one seems to bust chops. Yes it is cold, but is would be a good jumping off point for breakfast and some B.S. Anyone wishing to show off their drift skills or how loud their system is, please stay home. Like Jack said, we need to show respect to get respect. I just cruized through this morning, but next week I will stay and hang out.
Funny, I never used to get up early on a sunday... Now I have 2 dogs and one wakes me up every morning at 7am, I think I may come out there next weekend. I like the OBI location but WAY too cold and WAY too far, plus the two times I went I had to beat people off who wanted to race my Malibu, I have no need or intent to race..
