local Pittsburgh Meet
DSM guys are hardcore. We pull our belt buckles to use as a battery tie down to pass tech. Going as fast as you possibly can on as few parts as possible gets you more respect than strapping on a GT series turbo, methanol, and nitrous. DSM guys don't whine when they shatter 4th gear, their transfer case, an axle, and their mothers hip in the same quarter mile pass. We deal with it, replace the parts, and move on. We love our ACT 2900 lb clutches and thats how its going to be. Being fast while looking as stock as possible is where it is at.
Evo guys typically have more money to go fast. They run $2000 plus clutches. A bill that is worth more than your typical DSM. Evo guys typically don't like the "hacked" nature of home made parts. Evo guys will spend $400 on a tune and be ok with that. Evo guys think DSM guys are hacks. DSM guys think evo guys don't have a clue how to mod a 4g63.
and glenn, yeah i have seen some animosity out there too.
it's silly. not only are we all car enthusiasts, we are even in the same family of cars.
f*ck it. anyone who loves their car and puts time and effort into making it their own is OK in my book.
let me know when that next DSM meet is. i will stop by.

Well seeing as how I own both I feel that I have some good insight on this.

i do got love for the dsm crowd , glen u know i think mario's car is damn tight. and i respect dan l here for his accomplishments with his . although he straight hates on me
i guess i am just one of those jerkoff evo owner
I don't straight hate. I would have made some different choices than you did when you modded your evo due to my experiences with my eclipse. Your car is fast and it works good so goal accomplished. I just preffer going to home depot for my go fast goodies, breaking out my welder when possible, and the joys of tuning my own car to achieve the best performance possible each and every pass.
This is embarassing but the truth.
I've dropped the tranny like 6 times this year in my eclipse. Multiple clutch, flywheel, and pressure plate failures. I even pulled it a few times to reshim some things that I was unhappy about. I'm used to being under a DSM.
Now at 1200 miles I went to change all the fluids in my Evo. Tranny first and I couldn't find the tranny at first. I kept peeking under the splash guards confused. I mean, I knew it was on the passangers side of the car, I was so sure of it. Well half an hour later I found the tranny and the drain bolt.
Took me about 20 mins to find the oil filter as well. A DSM is the front drivers side of the engine bay. The Evo is the back passangers side.
When I go to do a timing belt I might be compleatly ****ed.

Typically, the EVO owners are in a higher income bracket and can afford nicer parts. And when you think about the fact that when you spend $23-36k on the car you want nice stuff on it, and dont want to hack it. Thats like popping the hood and seeing JB weld, just doesnt seem right. On a DSM that you pay a couple hundred bucks- $2k or so, heck maybe even free. You are willing to try anything, becuase sh*t, if it doesnt work, who cars is a "throw away" car.
Look at it this way, an EVO can run 23 plus psi on the stock head gasket and can utilize a boost controller, exhuast, afc, injectors, and a 30r and make over 400hp on pump gas. Do that to a low mileage DSM motor with the same mods and you know the outcome of that. what it comes down too is if you didnt migrate from a DSM to an EVO, you dont appreciate what little things get you and that DSMs are a cool car. The EVO owners that think its just an old turd are what give the bad name for EVO owners. Converesly, DSM owners that cant afford the EVO I think are just plain jealous if they dont actually appreciate the EVO for what it is.
Thats my experience personally, and selling ALOT of parts to both crowds! hahaha

i dunno i always been a fan of a cheaper car goin faster so if someone puts 20k in there evo beats a new zo6 thats cool same as if someones FREE DSM puts 10k in and beats a modded evo i love both dont get me wrong and would buy a evo in a second if i could, i just always like the underdogs
