Hey, I don't know what you guys were whining about - I thought that course was great (might have been a bit too easy). I don't know why everyone was hitting so many cones, must just have been lack of skill... .

skill? in autocross?

i always just thought you were supposed to give it as much throttle as possible and jerk the wheel from time to time.

Yeah, thats pretty much all I do. In fact, up until my last run, thats really all I was doing. My last run was the only time I didnt hit a cone because I wasn't trying to blast through the course at full throttle - coincidentally my fastest run too .

Need an opinion from you guys. Really looking at 18x8.5 bronze/gold Volk CE28N that are wrapped in Falken Ziex 512 in 255/35/18. Wheels are Forged and only weight 15.8lbs a piece (thats at least 2lbs lighter than my 17x8 BBS's). Guy wants $1900 shipped. Mainly buying this setup because I need extra wheels for AutoX.

Things I like: weight, strength, size, overall look
Things I don't: color, tire type, parting with $1900 - even though its a good deal

What do you guys think?

you can always repaint, or have the wheels powder coated.

the tires are decent tires for autocross, so they won't be bad just have some fun with and burn off

i would say go for it.

You should get the rims and tires for that price.

What can you say, they are one of the best wheels you can buy IMHO! I'd have a set if everything else on the car didn't cost so much.

Okay now the downside. If these are really auto-x wheels then you need to look to the future. Or how much you want to be competititive. Here are the issues.

If you run a Street tire class. Which your not legal for right now. Then they would be good becuase you can only run a 245 legally anyways. Which is the perfect size for those wheels. 255 is better on a 9" rim. Your not talking about loosing alot with the 8.5" but alittle.

Now if you want to ever run slicks, think about what kind first and what you'll want them for. If you want to be competetive in any slick class you'll need at least 275's. Which those are getting really small for. Now if you will just want to have fun and be closer to the top guys. (not real close) Then you can run a 245 slick and have some fun.

The big problem here in a nutshell is that they are alittle skinny. Now would i buy them to have and put street tires on. Heck yea! So the guestion come down to how many sets of wheels do you want to own. I'm at 4 sets! lol.

New guy saying "hello"; & Thanks Mike and Frank!!

Hello!

I've just started to settle in here in Pittsburgh while we search for a house, and was lucky enough to find Mike at Bairel Mitsu by reading through the Pittsburgh Meet forum.

Mike did a great job with setting up the alignment on my car, with special thanks to Frank for hooking me up with a set of camber plates on very short notice (Thanks again Frank )

Look forward to meeting up with some Evo's out at BeaveRun for one of the Flat Out Fridays. Mike had mentioned that the are quite a few Evo's that autocross locally as well.

I haven't autocrossed yet, but would love to give it a go!

Anyway, I'm trying to get out to BeaveRun this Saturday, but am stuck on the waiting list .

What do you all think of Nelson Ledges? They have a two back to back Fun Days on 5.16 and 5.17 for $120/day . Seems like a bargin for a full day of track time!

Anyway, If you see a RR IX with gunmetal Advans and a hood full of rock chips driving around the North Hills area, that's me.

BTW, the hilly, twisty roads out here are awesome....but the potholes are another story

Patrick

That is way less considering shipping from another distributor...
when i try to go to it, it doesn't display the board, just the header and some text under it that says "Deafult Style --- Dark_VB" and i can't goto my control panel because it 404's.

Welcome Patrick. I'd love to meet and see the car sometime. I've done a few lap days at Beaver run and its a real fun track. Hard on brakes but fun. Nelsons is a great deal except that it is pretty much a free for all sooo. As long as you kno alittle about watching out for the not so bright then its fine.

Hope you get in on Sat as you'll have some fun on that track.

Oh and if you have a roll cage you can come do some hillclimbs with me this year if you like.
