I borrowed a Cobalt SS for a few days from a friend of mine while one of my cars was being worked on. It surprised me how slow it was. How the car mags get it to go 0 to 60 in 6.0 is a miracle. I would rather be a douchebad Evo owner than a "why's my car slower than an SUV" Cobalt owner.

Why's everyone ripping on the cobalt? It has nothing to do w/ whoever wrote this FAKE thing. So if it's so slow why will a stock ss/sc run w/ a stock evo 8 from a roll? (Yes roll racing's gay) but it's not my fault they made our car front wheel drive.

Why rip on it? Because we can. And because it's slow. And because we're #2 on the douchebag list and we think we have the fastest and most invincible car around. So that bestows special priveldges to rip on whatever we want.

No stock ss/sc will run with a stock Evo 8 from a roll. That's just your imagination.

I just wanna make one point. Despite what it may seem like from my earlier post about the cobalt(which seriously was just for laughs) I try to keep an unbiased outlook on all cars. You'll never hear me say "X car sucks." If we're talkin stock for stock, the evo is not in the same league as the cobalt, by leaps and bounds. Rather than just say, "your car sucks cuz its a XXXX, or xxxx's are junk", we need to look at what the persons done to it. I personally dont really like most front wheel drive cars, but I'll absolutely give props to a guy that did a good job on one. There was a kid in my town with a purple teg that ran low 11.s all motor. I typically dislike tegs but loved and respected the way the car was built, a true racer. Now you can take any car and say, oh mine will beat yours or this guys will beat his, does it matter what the winner crosses the finish line with? Can we try to see a car for what the owner put into it?

I'm 17 and couldn't spend 33k on a brand new evo or I def would have. (I will in 2 years) but I am satisfied w/ "GM's ill-fated attempt to have a runner in the sport compact world"
lets get something straight right now...

1. the cobalt is garbage, its a GM and its ugly as sin
2. the cobalt is front wheel drive, which means that your above statement is very wrong, it cant compete with an evo, because while the cobalt is spinning its tires all over the highway with traction loss, the evo just takes off and says good by, while looking and sounding better.
3. i realize you cant afford an evo, i realize you know the evo is superior, and i realize your only 17 and have to defend your car. But being that ive owned many many many MANY cars and quite a few fast/expensive ones as well, i can say from experience that the SS can never be what an EVO is with only bolt on's. Please dont start comparing the evo to the SS. It's not right. HP is nothing if it's not usable.

the SRT-4, cobalt SS, ION redline, these are closer cars for comparison.

You have never raced a ss/sc stock for stock from a roll so you DO NOT know if it will hang w/ an Evo. Notice the word hang? My uncle has a Sti who I raced from a roll and i got beat by a car. As you know, the sti and evo are very close in comparison. There is a twincharged set up out by hahns and cobalts will be pushing 400 horse w/ this set up.

I never said the cobalt could be where the evo is w/ just bolt ons did i? Cobalts been out for 2 years whereas the evo has been out much longer... What do you expect out of GM?

I was never trying to compare these 2 cars in the first place until people were saying ****. I realize they're on 2 dif levels, but w/ the 10k price difference one would think they should be.

I could have gotten a used evo if i wanted to so I did have the money for that, but I could not get past the purple seats.. ew

Man leave the kid alone....he wuvs his cobalt. Nothing wrong with loving your car, and keep in mind he is only 17 and has a lot of learning to do. And if you did put on 10K in parts to get your cobalt to "evo" level, the evo owner could put on 1500 in parts AND LABOR and you would need another 10k to catch up again.

I know... I was just saying if you added the extra 10k that it would cost to buy and evo and put it into a cobalt it would make it hella lot faster...

I'm just pissed that you guys are going around rippin on my car when never did i say anything bad about your guys car. Specially when the Evo is basically my fav. car on the market. (In a decent price range).

No power adders, maybe a few drivetrain goodies, and have GMPP(GM Performance Parts) offer a ****LOAD of upgrade parts for it. Including superchargers, turbos, gauge kits, intercoolers, exhausts, throttle bodies, etc. Somewhat like how Ford has their Ford Racing products for mustangs and such.
They do offer Factory backed Performance parts. The cars are very quick with very little done to them. BTW, they are actually an Opel Astra with Chevy badging on them. Anybody that knows about Opel Astra's, know their race heritage and the fact that they are great tuner cars in street form. A business partner/friend of mine has one with a stage 3 kit on it and I can tell you it is very fast. Unfortunately he does not like drag racing, so we cannot see what it can do in the 1/4. All I know is, that it can hang with my Stage 2 AMS Evo in the straights which is very impressive in my eyes. He's getting stage 5 upgrades to the motor here soon from Intense Racing, so I may have to convince him to take it to the strip to see what kind of times it can lay down. I know traction "WILL" be an issue for him. LOL

thank you^^

The stage 5 will push him down to a 2.5 inch pulley and if he has any other performance parts down he should dyno around 280 at the wheels. What do you run in the 1/4?

If he is a decent driver he should run very high 12's but I have no clue what your car would run.

I didn't know that about the cobalt, that it was basically an Opel. I thought the Astras were rear drive though?(I'm probably thinkin of a different car) So has GM said **** it to developing new cars? The GTO was the same way, its a Holden Monaro with a V8...

He dynoed 280 at the wheels with the Intense Stage 3 by it's self. When he is done, it should be around 400+ to the wheels. I run a low to mid 12's in my 04 Evo. I did his supsension on his SS for him and that bad boy can deffinately hang in the corners with me and I can drive very well. I mean look at the GM Cobalt SS time attack car, it has many stock parts on it and almost broke the track record first time out last year. I have dealt with the GM Time Attack car in person, and I must say I am very impressed.
