Snowboards

I've been snowboarding for approx 5 years now and I think i'm ready to upgrade. My current board is an old Sims board 155cm. The board itself is about 7 years old, and I basically grew into it since i was a young grasshopper.

Nowadays I heard a cheap $200 board could easily outperform my board in every possible way, is this true? I'm not sure if I'm better off having my board fixed up or purchasing a cheaper new board.

Is it worth renting out my local mountain snowboard shop and trying out some of their boards to see if there is any improvement? Or am I better off just going out to a local sporting place and picking up a $200 lamar board?

I wish I could, unfortunately they seem to start at $400 and that is just too much for me.

Don't bother "testing" out the rentals, they're all going to be entry level boards. If you want a nice one be ready to spend a little over 300 for a decent board.

My favorite so far is the Forum Destroyer..not too expensive and its a serious freestyle board. Also look into Burton's freestyle boards, they have a few to choose from in each level.

If your into freestyle boards, I would stay away from burtons or options, they are very stiff boards and more suitable for cross country or downhill type boarding.

Did you notice a difference between boards. I'm a pretty experienced rider (atleast I think so) but I just dont know too much about the sport/products out there and if I will notice a difference between my 7year old board and a newer board.
