since the card will do the processing for blu-ray playback, i didn't want to skimp. my understanding is all of the H.264 processing gets moved to the card with the newer chipsets. you think the 46xx will be adequate for use with a 50" TV? i was most interested in the gddr5 used in the 48xx cards more than anything else.
i was thinking about getting one which was passively-cooled to keep the noise down, but i think the case fans kill that idea anyway....stupid heat.

the major differences in the chips have to do with the 3D pipeline...which in my understanding has 0 to do with HD playback. the portion of the chip that does HD playback is the same across them all (UVD2.0)
i just talked to our senior fellow to confirm i was right... and he said get a 730 (46xx). he said the 710 (43xx) could show worse performance due to memory bottlenecks or if the player is doing any special effects like alpha blending... a 770 (48xx) is a waste of money if you dont plan to game.
also a 46xx shoudl run you like 70 bucks on newegg

Yup, I work on the DX10 and DX11 driver. I work in Marlboro, its one of our major engineering locations (toranto, silicon valley, orlando and marlboro).

Wrong, fixed.
its really not that bad working on the driver... i've been doing all R800 and DX11 stuff lately which is kinda cool. its nice to write code from scratch...
dont get me started on the stock price
i'm hoping if i hold on to my RSQs long enough they will be worth enough that i wont use them for toilet paper

Nice! Really loving the clarity and the highlights on the water. This is a great spot that you found.
I'd really like to pick up an ND filter and a graduated ND filter for some shooting this fall...that and a nice 18-200... *sigh*...

GRRRR... it looks like the 46xx doesn't have an HDMI output, so that won't work. it's either the 4850 or 4870 i need....
turco, from what i've read, the ATI drivers for the 4xxx series are new and lacking, so i bet linux is a bit behind that.
