Hey guys, I need your honest oppinion....I am debating on having my tint removed from my car windows. It was professionally done. Reason is that the tint around the outer edges of the rear glass has started lifting. looks like crap on the lower edges. Now I am not sure if I should have it redone, or remove all the tint as well on the doors too. And have any of you attempted this removal? I do not want to ruin the heater elements on the rear glass. I'm afraid to start this on my own and end up damaging the heater grids. Any input / tips / tricks welcome.

I removed my tint. Holy hell, that was a pain in the ***.

I left it on my rear window for fear of wrecking the defroster elements...you need to get a steam-cleaner with a hand-held attachement to steam it off the rear windows...better to have that done professionally.

As for the other windows...you can peel the film off in 2 seconds, but it will leave the adhesive behind...Mix up a solution of some dish soap (3 drops) and water in a spray bottle...mist the spray all over the window and use a straight razor in a up-down motion to remove the adhesive.

NEVER use any abrasives like scotchbrite...it will wreck your window.

I still have a few strips of adhesive on mine that I missed and havent had time to get yet (under the weatherstripping). but it all came off pretty good.

I used to install window tint at a shop while I wsa in college and I'm confident that the above methods are the best way to remove the tint...

^^ thanks man....I knew that the doors wer not an issue for me. Major concern was the back glass. Knowing you did tint installs during school....and you still have the tint on your back glass on your car....me = afraid of how much time it will take me and not ruin the defrost. God didn't bless me with the most patience on tasks such as this

Yeah...we had customers that would just break their rear glass and get it replaced because it was cheaper than having us remove the tint...

If the problem's on yoru rear glass you can try a few things...

1. you can try to use heat to reseat the film on the adhesive.

2. I know this sounds so ghetto...but hear me out....if it's only small edges (less than 1/4" peeling) you can take a razor and slice back to where the tint isn't peeling. You can actually fill the now untinted area with more film or even marker...it doesn't look nearly as ghetto as it sounds, but i'm taking small small sections...like a marker-tip width.

3. Get it professionally undone and redone. I was quoted $200 for tint removal from Tint king.

I was getting hassled by the cops for my very dark tint so I wanted to strip it down...I really didn't want to burn $200 so since I didn't have a problem with the rear window i just left it and the little triangle windows tinted.

We could probably pull the tint from the 6 windows and leave the rear glass alone...then you could have a pro take care of that.

Yeah, I just couldn't justify his quote of 6 hours pre-paid up front...lets just say he wanted WAY too much, and couldn;t garauntee no defrost element damage. My car right now is wrapped in 35%. Not dark, but just enough. Looks good, but still debating. I may just trim, and if need be, add a lil on the egde to fill in the "gaps." I am just retentive, and am starting a whole winter transition/makeover for my car. This being one of the steps to adress.
