NYC Dealer for Warranty Work

Hi.

Does anyone in NYC/tri-state/Northeast have feedback on particular Mitsu dealers? My 100% stock, 35,000 mile Evo IX has an oil leak from the bottom/side of the engine somewhere. I understand that all IX's are covered up to 60,000 miles under the powertrain warranty.

However, I've heard that Mitsu dealers like to give a really hard time to customers requesting warranty work - asking for things like maintenance records and receipts (I dont hold onto either one) to show that the problem is not a result of user neglect.

Can anyone recommend a dealer that they went to with successful warranty claim? Likewise, can someone advise which dealers I should absolutely avoid.

Thanks.

(I've already searched)

First jack up the front of the car and take a look to see where the oil is coming from.

My IX with 26k miles had a very small leak at the crimp connection returning from the oil cooler . I noticed a coating of oil between the hose and the the sheath around it when I did an oil change.

I used to use Yonkers Mitsubishi (where I bought my car) but had several bad experiences with them and will never return.

I called the Mitsu 888 hotline when I had the problems with Yonkers and they suggested I go to Pougkeepsie Mitsubishi. I did, was treated extremely well had the oil line and new Mobil 1 replaced under warranty in a timely matter.

FYI, I was concerned because they were so far North since I'm from Westchester. But the day I dropped the car off at 8 AM they gave me a courtesy car to drive till I picked tha car up, it was ready by Noon.

My car is also 100% stock and I would definitely suggest going to them.

Check to see where the leak is coming from first and make sure your oil level is in the safe zone or refill it if you have to.

Let me know if you need any help or the Service Tech's name I dealt with. He'll be happy I sent more business his way.

Anton

The leak is coming from the engine block - near the clutch side. I already dropped it off at my local Mitsu dealer.

We will see what they find. But I may contact Pougkeepsie Mitsu if things turn sour here - hopefully not.

Thanks for the [very informative] reply.

If you're willing to drive out to Long Island I've taken mine to Wantagh Mitsubishi 3 times. The first two times were warranty jobs (one was turbo cooling hose and the second time was for replacing a bad 5th gear synchro). All three times I've been there they never gave me a problem and were actually very helpful and knowledgeable. They even drove me to work when they needed the car for the day. I wouldn't call myself a regular customer because my maintenance work gets taken care of at my father's shop but I definitely recommend them. Good luck!!
