Pull the trigger on a 2010 SE?
I'm starting a new thread on this for a wider audience. I got lots of awesome feedback on an earlier question, but now I've come to some decision points and wanted some feedback. The dealer I'm using has a 2010 SE with 10K on it. I more or less can have the car tomorrow if I want it. I like manual, but this is an awesome car (black in color, heated cloth seats). I'm looking for some enthusiast feedback. Good decision, bad decision?
The dealer (who stocks lots and lots of evos) is pretty stoked about this car since it only arrives on their lots once or twice a year. The car is number 211 of 340 brought into the US in 2010, so it is rare.
I have a car ready to trade in, and financing is secure. The dealer wants $31,995 for this car, and I'm thinking of getting it, but the Base 2012 Evo is only $33, 000.
Oh, the dealer will add a 100K 5yr warranty for $2,100, and can add a stage II (COBB) that is covered under Mitsu warranty.
Fire away...

It was just the middle model, best of GSR and MR.

I have a 2010 SE and overall I think it's a great car. Someone mentioned it was a middle model, but really it is a unique set of options that you can't get combined with the GSR or MR. Specifically, it has most of the MR goodies (brake rotors, shocks, SST), but lacks some of the extra weight (leather seats, sound deadening). It also includes HID's and heated seats, which are nice daily driver options.
An article I read stated the SE was 96 pounds lighter than the MR http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...on_comparison/ . They also claim it is the quickest of the Evo X's due it being the lighter of the SST's with launch control. If you want an SST I think it's the route to go and living in the city it was a no brainer for me.

Are you in Austin? What dealer are you talking about that stocks lots of Evo's? Don Herring?
If your in Texas then you will know that heated seats aren't really needed often. Are winters are short and pretty mild. You already said that you prefer the manual transmission. What exactly do you like about the SE? The MR shocks and brake rotors or the HID's? Thats the only other difference between the used SE and a new base GSR right?
With that said the SE's are very limited. I guess unlike other companies who put out a limited model, Mitsubishi really meant it when they put a limited badge on this one. I'm sure the car will hold value easily.
If it was me though I would buy a brand new 2012 GSR over a used 2010 SE since the GSR is only $1000 more and I preferred the 5 speed.

Going for what you want is key. If you like having a rare model car then do it. If you want more options, get an MR. If you want more raw power to control, get the GSR.
I love my GSR and would hate the paddle shifting cause that's not a sports car to me.

I got the pictures from the dealer Don Herring in Irvine. The car is not on the website yet. It looks very clean, only a few minor scratches. Previous owner was quite wealthy and traded it in for a fully loaded MR. Yes, I'm in Austin. I used to live in Winnipeg (freezing look it up). I'm in the process of writing up an email to pick the car I want. It will be a new base GSR, not used. I can't get around the idea of not having a manual, and the lack of wing takes something away from the car for me. The car is an icon, and the wing balances the look. I'll likely drive three hours north to pick up the car... that is the plan anyway. If the gods are favorable to my trade and offer, then I'll be happy. I'm also going to request a COBB tune stage I (offered by the dealer), and ask for an offer for stage II (also offered by the dealer). COBB is just around the corner from this dealer, and they work with each other all the time. Ironically, COBB is also located in Austin, but they are only an R&D facility now. Anyway, talk is cheap... let's see if I go through with this. I have a supportive spouse, which makes all the difference in the world. She told me today, "If you buy the Evo, we will have to go to a community meet up". Cool girl!
BTW, if someone wants the SE, I have pictures on my phone. The car looks nice, but not for me.
Thanks for your post, and everyone for your posts...
