Mods That Make You Fail Inspection
Almost every modification you make can fail inspection if you go to someone who is strict. Lowering, flashers and tail color other than amber or red, aftermaket lighting (non-oem HID), lowering, any CEL, excessive exhaust noise...list goes on!
downpipe will not fail you unless it causes the car to be too loud. also make sure you have no CEL and give the ecu time to be "ready". IC piping will not get you in trouble. your ride height cant be "slammed", else they usually dont mind. aggressive cams may make you fail as they may comment about your idle, else your fine.
I have a buschur 3" full exhaust with a catco cat, passed no problem. (pretty loud) Went to a garage in south NJ where I was living at the time. They did quite a rigorous test too. My car was so "unique" to the two guys working they didnt even realize my front plate was under my passenger seat. lol
Register your car in Indiana (except Porter and Lake Counties)... we dont have inspections here at all. Unless you title a car out of state... but then they just make sure the VIN matches the out of state title.
i use to work at an inspection station here in maryland and it all depends on the inspector or how he feels that day lol ...but leagally u can pass with the downpipe. as long as you have ur cat and a muffler. It dose say "no modified supension" in the book but if ur not to low you shoulnt get messed with about that. No tint unless it comes factory. theres a list but if all u have is a dp ur good push the ol girl threw ull pass with flyin colors as long as theres nothin else wrong.
it really depends on where you go in nj and if you have a check engine light on, here in nj 96-newer get obd2 testing which is hard to get around. im glad i can inspect my own cars
to the OP... it depends where you go. If you go to DMV then most likely they will pick on you for minor mods. If you go to an alternate place such as a gas station they will most likely not harass you as much as long as you dont have a CEL.
For all of those $100 inpections stickers, they are 95% fake. The sticker itself might be real, but if its not linked to DMV its FAKE. If you get pulled over in jersey, the cops CAN'T check if the sticker is fake or real... so one of the methods they use is run the last time your VIN was inspected. If their records don't match your sticker, then you are in serious trouble. It includes $500 ficticious inspection sticker fine, and a ticket for failure to inspect and possible towing and a free ride in a cruiser... DO NOT GET FOOLED FOR $100 INSPECTIONS

In NYC the $100 inspection stickers are 100% legit.

I never had as far as i know fake inspection sticker. I'm living in NJ.
Also last week i was at the first time at paramus Inspection station. With after market HID 's in the car. KATZ , stricly JDM

And when they turned it on, it was blue as hell. But they dont even mentioned it. The car just passed with no problem.
