Mods That Make You Fail Inspection

I'm trying to find out what mods make you fail inspection.

will a 3"downpipe make you fail for example? and if it does what will fix it

please list other items.

thanks

im in NJ

Edit 12-28-08
I should of mentioned why I need this.

I removed my front bumper, upper and lower ic pipes, fmic, downpipe, exhaust, complete turbo, radiator, cams (when i get new ones)
You see all this stuff removed now I didn't realize about the 4 year inspection that expires this month, the new inspection is good for two years but my car is all apart, would I have to put it all back for just the inspection, then start again?

yea but lucky for us in mass as long as you have no cel they dont bother to look any harder. i passed with no cat. my exhaust was borderline in terms of volume. same with the tint.

like everyone has said, it varies state to state. but assume once you go catless, unless you can cover it up its going to fail anywhere

Some places don't even have a inspection as i heard. So i guess you need to separate this question to states.

theres a link on here that shows you how to make your testpipe look like a cat...something about taking your old cat apart and welding the outer part onto the testpipe....the link is under the how tos section

pretty much the same thing here in jersey i think. there are times that they will let you pass with the minor stuff as long as you don't get the CEL's on and your emission is fine!

mods that will make your car emissions illegal in your county or state if they have emissions test is...

big injectors
cams
no cat
etc...

there are 2 mitsu dealerships around here that don't really care much and will pass you, so that is cool.

I have passed everywhere I go for emissions with cams in VA atleast. I still have my cat but have the TP in the house! You guys have it rough then. All they do here is make sure your whatever is supposed to be DOT is, which is why I failed my first time since I put JDM Heads/Tails on. They also check to see if they can see your third break light if you have tint and they see if you have a SES light on.
