this is unbelievably illegal! also he did not have reason to ask you to get out of your car or for you to hand him your keys... you had every right in the world to refuse. Unless you gave him probably cause, such as motions of aggression or acting like you were hiding something ie weapons/drugs. No matter how dark your tint looks by law they are required to meter it before they can order it to be removed. In addition if he scratched your actual window you have grounds for a lawsuit.

You Never win AGAINST COP !!!!
Heres my Story about 6 months ago I was driving my car
to send my girlfriend home. All of the sudden my alarm went on and there was a COP right behind me so I pulled over to explain that my ALARM went crazy and something must be short circuting.
I did forget to bring my drivers license so when he ask me for it I told him I left it at home. So he then said HOW DO I KNOW YOU DIDNT STEAL THE CAR then I TOLD HIM HERES MY PHONE
CONTACT MY PARENTS if you like. Then the COP said I AM NOT CALLING NOBODY so I was like then what do you want me to do I DIDNT STEAL THE CAR its MINE!!!!! HE SAID
I am giving him a attitude and HE LOCKED ME UP THAT NIGHT and I HAD TO tell my GF to pick up my drivers license at home and send it ova. And after she brought my license ova guess WHAT THE DICK COP wrote me a TICKET for OBSTRUCTION TRAFFIC!!!

The LESSON in this is
Never talk back to a POLICE OFFICER no matter what!!!
Even if you know they JERK YOU !!! Cuz you cant do anything about it. If you try to act tough THEY JUST LOCK YOU UP!!! For NO REASON !!

I guess Cali must be very different from NY...
because they CAN'T lock you up for a traffic violation (exceptoion being dwi), especially if it isnt even a moving viloation (which tint of course isnt). Now of course if you give them a real hard time they can take you in, but again they have to have CAUSE and refusing to let a cop scratch your tint off with a key is not cause.

And to the other post above yours,
they could have looked up your license from your name... and would have asked you your bday and possibly soc to varify.
And then of course compared it to the registration, he had no reason to arrest you.

Discrimination too if possible. This will surely make a case. Lawyer will not try create a case unless there is some way they can sue for bling bling $$.

When I lived in Ventura, Cali I was pulled for speeding on my Ninja and I had forgot my DL. The cop wrote me up for speeding no DL and no insurance. He never asked me for proof of insurance. I went to court where I brought my DL and proof of insurance. I told the judge my story and I added that if the officer would lie about my insurance it stands to reason that he is lying about the speeding also. The judge agreed, dropped the case and made the officer look stupid in court. It was great to see everyone laughing at him.

HAHAHHA I live in Rockville Centre. The cops here have NOTHING TO DO! So they spend their time stopping someone like me that was minding my own business.

Actually you should have gotten his badge and car number and Immediately called and filed a complaint (gone down to the precinct) and had photos taken.. What he did is ILLEGAL and Inappropriate, you should have gotten a ticket at the least that you just pay..

You got locked up because you couldn't provide identify yourself adequately, and something happened to make them suspicious. If the alarm is going off, and you don't have your ID or your registration, OF COURSE their going to lock you up.. How are they supposed to verify who you are otherwise?

Don't get me wrong, cop are dicks, but most of the time you have to do something to irritate them, otherwise you basically get your ticket and you go on your way.. It sucks because I can relate to selective enforcement, however I have only been harassed in an inappropriate manner ONCE in the 15 years I've been driving.
