you can send in and get shock dyno for $15 each and they well tell you if it needs rebuild. they did mention on the phone that people tend to send their shock in for rebuild sooner than it needs to. they asked why i think it needs rebuild and how many miles are on them.
No, but based on my research, it seems everyone uses them. They do a lot of work for professional race teams too apparently. In any case, THai and I have the same Ohlins, and the guy who designed our set recommended them as the rebuilder of choice, and said that PSi knows the specs for the rebuild. Of course, anyone could do it, but I don't think prices is that much different for Ohlins trained mechanics. Who knows...I'm just all about the hype!
Like Thai, mine doesn't leak at all. But when shaking the shock body, I can feel the movement. Thisusally means the seals and bushings insides are beat. My spherical bearings are also clunking!!!FUG. Anyone know of a good brand coming out next month from China that comes in purple?

I thought Ohlins recommends having the shocks serviced after every season. As far as autocross, I cannot see how they could get that beat over one season, for track guys normal usage I can totally see why you would need a rebuild after a season or two.
Mike, I recall the same, about Ohlins recommending rebuild after 1-2 seasons, but I think it depends on usage also. I can see your point. When they talk about rebuild though, I think it could be as simple as replacing the fluids and refilling nitrogen, which isn't as costly. The Evo front shock however, also takes load as it doesn't have upper control arms, so the shock takes alot of the lateral load, which autox and track puts a lot on. If your shock body is showing movement, the seals are starting to go, like mine and Thai's did. It may not leak and feels fine though.
BTW, Thai mentioned this earlier, so I'll add to it. I'm having mine rebuilt by Odi Bakchis of Feal Suspension. He priced me out at half the cost of PSi for a rebuild, and is well known for his work with the rally guys. He's also done work for a few TA teams I respect, like the Dent Sport guys. He's a drifter though, so that may turn some of you away!

Some of you already knew I sold the e30 a few weeks ago. I had it up for sale at the end of last year in hopes of getting into an e36M. I had a few people interested, but I didn't want to give it away because its such an awesome car/platform, so I figured if I didn't get my asking price it was no biggie and I would just keep it and make my dreams of safe/disposable track car a reality.
Fast forward to about 4 weeks ago when out of the blue someone found my old FS ad and said they wanted to see the car with cash in hand. I was really at a turning point since just earlier that week I purchased race seats, roll-bar, harnesses and brackets to make the transformation into a track car. The guy seemed serious so I quickly cancelled the parts I ordered (except for the seats) and arranged for the guy to see the car that weekend. Long story short he came down from NJ with an envelope and gave me what I was asking.
With the e30 sold the hunt was on to find a good e36m as a replacement. After driving all over PA and NJ to see about half a dozen overpriced cars and paying (wasting money) for a few PPI's luck finally struck and I found the car I wanted last week.
Sorry for the crappy pics. Its a 99 coupe with 92k on the clock. Bone stock from air filter to exhaust. I am the third owner and have service records since the first inspection @ 20k miles.

Car is at RT tuning now getting inspected and aligned in preparation for the upcoming Lightning event w/BMWCCA april 16-17th.
Plan is to run the car bone stock for that event. If everything goes well I'll order the bar, harnesses and brackets (already have the seats) for the Glen the following month.
Still keeping the EVO to run Real TA and some special events, but this will be my primary track weapon.
Come at meh, bishes!
