Even with your thin aluminum sheet it can't be much less weight than the alumalite... and is less structurally stiff. How far under the car does that extend? For SM class, I have to stop at the drive axles.

my son is better than me at kids game, doesn't mean he can drive. holla

i'm using solid core alumalite, not corrugated core. it's a little heavier and much stiffer. you need the stiffness at the front, that's where the air is pushing down. just need smooth flowing air under the car. the aluminium panel if definitely lighter, one of the main reason i did it and also it wont melt at the down pipe. it extends back to about 5" in front of the axles. if the oem plastic under tray held on my plastic clips can handle it, then obviously there's not a lot of pressure under there.

i'm thinking of making a new one over the winter. i want something larger and can remove in less than 5 minutes. even without jacking the car up.

I think the plastic under tray has held up because of the flex it allows but also in stock form it doesn't have direct pressure/air pointed to it. Or you just not going fast enough.

what about the Beatrush aluminum under tray. they seem to hold up. and most after market under tray i see are thin panel and they hold up fine. my point is that there's not a lot of pressure under the there. just need to make air flow smooth and reduce drag. unless you're making a diffuser tunnel, then there's not much pressure. do what chu want, you'll be the one giving point by, that's all that maters. com at meh kid

^I had a Beatrush undertray. The aluminum was even thinner than what you're using on yours. There are vents underneath for airflow, and diffusers in front of the tires on each side. It was a pretty strong piece, but was a pain to put together. Used all allen bolts, so it was a pain in the *** to remove if you needed to get underneath.

I like the idea of running an undertray though. Regardless of aero effects, it keeps the engine bay cleaner, and covers things up. My car didn't come with one, so it was one of my first purchases.

<--- still running full OEM undertray.

I take pride in the fact that I have all the clips on there too. ITs a real labor of love (read: PITA) installing that thing errtime I work under the car, but my thinking is that the factory put it there for a reason and I don't know no better than dem mitsu engineers, so I just let it be... until I get my Shoe Motorsports splitter on.

When receiving the IX MR, it was basically a stripper model. No front lip, wingless trunk, no undertray, various bolts and clips missing, double din radio missing. But now the bolts/clips are now replaced and I ordered a CF front lip weeks ago(still don't have it).

Once I have the cash to burn I will be getting:
Carbing under panel
Making a custom birchwood splitter with FG overlay and Circle track supply rods.
And Doing a custom spoiler mount/uprights(below) or trunk swap.

^The beatrush piece is a much better one that the Carbing. It covers the entire underside of the front, whereas the Carbing only covers the center portion. Anyways, whats the point of buying an undertray, and building a diffuser. Kinda pointless...

Nice chassis mount spoiler = lose trunk. BOOM!
