Yeah, but in Cali the inspection process focuses almost completely on the emissions related stuff. In PA they conduct a very thorough inspection of the whole car....they remove ALL wheels and measure brake pad thickness...measure rotor thickness.....check the operation of all warning indicator lights on dash....check the condition of the coolant...check seatbelts for frays and sun bleaching...etc etc etc.

You must not live near a major metro area in PA. Cause if you live in Montgomery, Bucks, Delaware, or Philadelphia Counties, you would know that they have had tailpipe emissions testing since the early 90's.

If you get pulled or written up for something that's not to code, they will go back to the place that inspected you and fine the hell out of them and pull the individuals inspections license. All of the inspection stickers are tracked to which shop gave them out.

As stated above, just stay up to code, reasoning not to is pretty silly.
Yeah, really...not worth it for 3 hp...

Moved into the NE forum. I can't wait to hear what they say when I get my car inspected.

In jersey it is either a 5K or 10K fine... i have to ask my cousin to be exact... but jersey has been having a lot more spot inspection lwith a mobile smog tester on the road..especially up in Bergen Co..... if you get caught you get fined....
Even wastegates that dump to the atmosphere will get you the fine....

And that is the only proper way of doing it. They are doing it in Europe since I know I existed.
Saw an Infinity the other day with back end bouncing like crazy up and down. Obviously the shocks were gone and it was still driving around. Sad.
Like someone else said too, they should take the old junk off the streets too. There are a ****load of trucks and SUVs that blow blue smoke and I'm not sure why different rules apply on those?!
Hopefully it doesn't get as bad on the east coast as it is in Cali.
I was there in November and it got much much worse since I was there last time.

Nj and Ca both have the same standards when it comes to Emmisions... they are the only two states that are super strict... NY is following suit as well.... so it will be all states....

on the contrary...

... it will be
The reason why they're doing it because they don't want it to look like this:

In case you don't know what that is - it's Los Angeles when looked from one of the streets up in Griffith Park.
The haze you see is not a haze but smog.
The only reason why I would never want to live in LA.

The man speaks the truth. So if your complaining about having to pass a tech "visual" inspection only, you are deffinantley getting off light.
