Purchasing a 2014 EVO NJ

Hey guys I'm new to the forum and hopefully will be pretty active. I'm about to pull the trigger this weekend and get a 2014 EVO MR (probably the touring, if not definitely with the premium package). Anyone know any reliable dealers? I'm trying to get a good price. I currently have place willing to give me 38.5 on a Black MR premium I could live with white though.

Also any reliable tuning shops? I'm trying to get compustar remote starter installed after I finally purchase.

Dealers, just find the one that gets you the best deal.

Tuning shop, check out Speed Circuit. Founded by Evo owners, they'll take care of you.

Wait, you're gonna want a stereo shop to do that part if you have the MR Fast Key. Compustar (any remote start) is an electronics/car audio product, not really a tuning product. Tuners usually deal with ECU tuning and mechanical mods.

In order to get the factory security system to interface with Compustar, you have to also purchase a transponder box thing (ADS Blade). The Blade unit has to be programmed by a Compustar Dealer during the installation to mimic your factory key. I know Best Buy has the programming computer, and probably most major stereo shops do. During the installation of the start/alarm, they have to flash a clone of your car's information from the factory alarm. They can also use their flasher to program things like delay start, windows up/down, etc. After options are programmed, they hook the ALS Blade back into the car.

Come check out our audio/electronics section for more help, and this thread is exactly what you are talking about

I had a horrible experience at rt46 Mitsubishi, so I went to Paramus and they were very good to me. Kevin, (the manager) is a super nice guy. This is my second Evo there. As for tuners, I had an awesome experience with Sean Ivey at Iveytune with my first Evo, and as soon as my current Evo is broken in I'll be going back to him again. He's in Elizabeth, NJ

That sounds like a pretty good price. Mind telling me what other equipment is on it and MSRP? Looking to by MR in a month or two in MA.

OP, which car are you coming from? Are you aware of Evo's nature of being thief magnets and cop magnets?

Do you have a secured garage for the Evo?

I'm coming from a 2005 Honda Civic. I wasn't aware that they get stolen a lot and yes I figured cops would be looking for them but I'm hoping that lack of a big spoiler on the MR won't make me stand out to much

This made my day.

Maybe consider getting a GPS tracker, a security system with that CompuStar, and some kill switches? Sometimes people's wheels get stolen as well, so CompuStar FT-DAS FTW.

is it really that serious for EVO's? I live by old bridge so not really a lot of car theft around here to my knowledge. My apartment complex is more of people 30+ so I'm not concerned about it getting stolen when I'm home, but obviously I wouldn't park in elizabeth and not be worried. BTW what is a killswitch?

I have a (female) friend who has her Evo stolen (but her comprehensive coverage paid off, which is good), so I have been paranoid ever since.

A kill switch is a switch that turns something off, like the fuel pump or the starter motor. You hide that kill switch or modify an existing switch into kill switch, so to significantly slow down thieves. If you run a remote starter, you will need some other kill switch that doesn't interfere with remote starting, such as gas pedal kill switch or a kill switch that prevents engaging in the 1st gear.

Kill switch is a cost effective and very effective method against grand theft auto. However, thieves can still flat bed your car away. Therefore a some firearms and a 2-way alarm system with tilt sensor is a must.
