Cam install + Tune in NJ
Cam install + Tune in NJ
So I'm looking to have cams installed and a tune put on my virgin car. It is a 2006 IX SE with 27k miles it will have the following mods
OEM turbo
ETS UICP
ETS LICP
Oem intercooler
Perrin intake
255 pump
3inch DP
English Racing boost activated test pipe
OEM catback
MBC
GSC S2 cams + Springs + retainers will need to be installed
My other Evo 8 was tuned by Petey which He replaced a tune that was from Ivey on the car from 4 years or so prior. It was much improved but it had Version 1 software on it or something of the sort.
Now I would go back to Petey however he does not do installs and I'm looking for a one stop shop.
I emailed CBRD and spoke with Chad and he informed me that I should do the following also, Headstuds, Timing belt and Water pump. The head studs I can understand and the timings stuff makes sense since your working in the area but is it really necessary with a car with 27k miles that was garage kept its whole life with 0 mods? I'm waiting to hear back as I asked for a quote to just do the cams + tune without everything else as it requires a special tool to do without removing the head studs and He needed to check to see if they still had it in the shop?
Another option would be TMW as I had my transfer+ rear diff fluids changed at the NJ satellite location Monday which was not the best experience as it took forever I was there for 5 hours, however overall its was cheap and the job got done.
any other opinions suggestions or recommendations would be gratefully appreciated
I AM NOT BASHING ANY SHOPS AND OR VENDORS IN THIS POST PLEASE DO NOT TAKE IT THAT WAY I'M ONLY STATING MY EXPERIENCES

TMW or Ivey Tune. Probably $800-1000 for cams and tune. Both shops are pretty professional and know what they are doing. I had to make the same decision and went with TMW as IT pricing was pretty outrageous; but again they do good work.
I would agree with doing the headstuds, DEFINITELY. The timing belt stuff and water pump is also a good idea. Even though the car has low miles and has been sitting, parts deteriorate over time. You have to take the timing belt off to do the cams anyways, so you might as well. You can get all the OEM timing belt and water pump parts for about $500. Better to get the insurance now than to have it skip a tooth down the road!
If you have the space to work on the car yourself, I would be happy to lend a hand!
