Avoid FREEHOLD Mitsubishi
Avoid FREEHOLD Mitsubishi
Just incase anyone was thinking of going to this toilet of a dealership. They sent me an email (through my search on autotrader) saying to come on down and "check out" the silver EVO that they had on the lot. So I clocked out of work 30 minutes early, with checkbook in the glovebox blah blah.
The internet sales manager greets me and then hands me off to JUSTIN, who looks like a reject from a mountain dew ad' campaign and is about half my age.
Justin starts waffling about how "phat" the car is and whatnot, telling me about the $2000 pinstriping that they will soon be "installing" on it. Yeah great, I say, but I want to drive it. "Ooooooh no. No dealerships in the country are giving test drives" Well, to cut a longish story short, I decided to walk away from this assbag and his $2000 markup for an undrivable car.
I'm sure this is a common story, but I'm 33, not 16. Income in the low six figures, good credit: Worst of all, I was ready to buy the car on the spot. I'll give another MItsu' dealership (maybe Bell South) a shot at treating me like an adult and if that does'nt work out I'm buying an STI.

Bell South has a lot of them on the lot. The one in the showroom is a black 04 with complete package (leather, infiniti audio) MSRP is 33,624. I bet you can haggle them down to 31,000 for it. But if you don't want all that they have others. like 4 more on the lot and they are all 04's. Man hook me up with a low 6 figure job.
I bought mine at Brad Benson. Not that you would want to service your car there but I got it for $28.5k in December 03. I test drove the silver one with 1400 miles on it. Mine had 4 miles on the clock when I picked it up.
Freehold Mitsubishi SUCKS. They tried to sell me a car with 300 miles on it for MSRP! I took my business to Bell Mitsubishi in Rahway. Bell South is better too. I would avoid EVERY dealership like the plague for service.
Funny, I bought my Evo at Freehold Mitsubishi for 5k under sticker after haggling with them all night. But the salesman worked with me and I went home with my baby that night. Granted, I havn't been back since (I do all my work) but besides the typical dealership BS I didn't have any trouble with them. My TB Evo was an 03 leftover, but they let me test drive it that night and I drove it home that night. Guess it all depends who's working that night. I dealt with Tom, the sales manager.

I went to Freehold and was not happy with their attitude, especially when the guy said:
"You can buy it now and be at the race track tonight"
That told me all about how much they know about cars and break-in.

I guess it really depends on what dealer you do business with. Also, the particular salesperson you deal with. The dealer I work for has two guys that really really know their stuff. The one has a 1992 Galant VR4 himself and can answer almost any question perfectly. Some of the other salespeople aren't the greatest when it comes to evo's.
The test drive thing is a touchy subject. We bought a used '03 off the street so that way we had a car thru the break in period that could be driven. Most people, once they are happy with the numbers and picked a color, usually like to drive "THE" car they are buying just out of principle and that is cool.
Good luck finding a better dealer. Some are great others suck. Plus sometimes one salesperson is better than the next. You could have two completely different experiences from the same store just because you dealt with two different salespeople.
Sorry to hear of your poor luck. Hope that one dealership doesn't taint your opinion of Mitsu in general.

PS- Mitsubishi Motors Club of York, PA is having a meet on July 10th. Should be fun and should have a solid turn out. If you guys would like to come LMK.

Oh I searched alright. But they are my local dealership, they HAVE the car i want; AND worst of all, they asked ME to come down and "check out the car". I did'nt realize that meant standing there outside the car while the spikey haired dickweed spouted on and on about the pin stripes the car would have soon.
Thanks for the feedback. I'll check out Bell. Is there a better option between the two Bell locations?
contact willie from evo-ny if you want he can get you a great deal from the dealer in Staten Island.... they have bought about 15-20 Evo's from this dealer and he gives the best price around....
