Boycott Speedware
Boycott Speedware
Here is what happened to my car(EVO) when I took it in for an oil change and tranny flush. Their mechanic, BRETT, took it on a 17 mile joyride for coffee at max 30lbs boost. Not only was there a problem with the head the # 2 and 4 pistons were also shot due to detonation I had a meeting with speedware to show them everything that was damaged. They admitted they fired their worker BRETT because he took our car out for coffee and a joy ride!!! Their offer was that they would give me 15.3 hours worth of free labor.!! OMG. They break my engine and they only offer free labor? It is going to cost $5100 for the parts alone. So now I have to have it fixed and then take them to court. ~Nicole
Also I want this info out everywhere- anyone know of any other local car messageboards?

When you hand over your car, you sign something. And, that document has very small prints saying that they might screw your car and it will be fine and you won't sue them. This is the reason I avoid many small shops with no reputations. Once you hand over your keys, you are mercy on their hands.
I'd be in there with a friggin baseball bat and the manager's head down on the desk...
The owner would either be signing a check or his manager's brains would be on the damn desk... I'd also tell the owner that he's "on deck!"
Guess sueing would also work though
Hope this works out for you...

that blows - I had some work done there before on my Celica, and aside from being a bit on the expensive side they always treated me well. This is definitely outside my tolerance zone though - I will let them know that I won't be spending any money there anymore.
Stuff like this really sucks - it's happened to me at other places too, although not to this extreme. I never let people work on my car anymore unless I can be there to supervise what they are doing. You get to learn lots that way too, and if I don't like what I see I'm out of there.
Still feel bad for you guys though....

I'm in accord with Ralph....if I can't be there, they don't get to work on my car (anymore).
I've also had bad experience's even with ppl I thought I could trust or ones that have been recommended. There just does seem to be shops that own up to mistakes...where's the honor or quality of work anymore?? I've had shops not even put the right parts on as discussed, loose parts of mine, even taken my car back four different times because there is no attention to detail to make sure it is done right so the customer doesn't have to come back. Hell they had it for months, you'd figure they'd be able to do it right with that kind of time.
It's hard times nowadays to find a good honest shop that isn't just after the buck. So unless they have a total rep for being the best shop around, I try not to visit any of them and just do what work I can do myself.....it sucks that you've now had to go through this. Going to court isn't all that much fun either, but as you've now said you'll be getting a 2.3 out of it.
I hope you get everything that you deserve. And all they were supposed to do was change fluids....damn shame.

Thanks for all of the support! i really appreciate it!
I should have explained that I have been dealing with speedware on this matter since June 30th. I have been speaking with the Owner Shaun and the Manager Eric. We even had a sit down meeting with them where they had, Lance, an outside mechanic look at the car. Lance stated it was due to detonation from over boosting. Shaun and Eric then said they would get back to us. We finally heard from them yesterday and their absolute final offer was 15.3 hours for labor and $60 for 2 pistons. This did not incude anything for the head (bent valves etc). What I asked for was, I would pay for the new head, They would pay $3000 towards the new motor( I would pick up any extra costs beyond the 3k) and they could do the labor. The bids I received for the crank were between $3000-$5000. I though i was being more than fair. I was one of thier biggest supporters before this. I told everyone I knew in the car community about what a great shop they were. Then this happens. I am so upset I am still shaking.
