Performance Mods

Anyone know where to go for performance mods in the portland area?? I plan on getting a cold air intake, reflashed ecu, walboro fuel pump, and maybe an APS BOV. I can't seem to find any performance shops around here that specialize in EVO's.

You dont really need a shop that specializes in evos, evos share the same engine as dsms, so go to englishracing in washougal. Lucas has many fast dsms and one that runs 10.90s.

ditch the intake idea, or just go to speed concepts. lol.

Stay away from the tuner shops up here. Any good general mechanic shop can do the same work, but cheaper.

As for mods, ditch the intake, BOV, and fuel pump and go w/ a 3" turboback exhaust and a reflash. More HP per $$$. For the reflash, I recommend the Vishnu Xflash since it comes w/ a neat, pressure bleeder that increases boost pressure w/o the need of warranty voiding MBC.

I already have a 3" TBE. Why shouldnt i get an intake and fuel pump as long as the cars tuned for it?

Well you got the tbe then get a k&n drop in or a intake either buschur racing, injen, or hks

I would reccommend the dynoflash baseflash for $200 you can beat it and your guaranteed 20whp even if your stock. The vishnu flash is like 650 which is kind of ridiculous.

If you got the TBE, then go for cams and a fuel pump. If you don't want the lopey idle of the cams then get some cam gears and retard them about 5 degrees. You'll get 15-20whp doing that.

Intakes just don't make the power for what they cost. I still run the stock airbox and filter on my GT3076 w/ no power issues. Plus, some aftermarket intakes can cause the MAF to have a fit.

Once you start getting to this point you really need to start thinking about what EMS system you want to go with. Reflashes are nice if you don't change anything. I occasionally run race gas at high boost pressures so a reflash just doesn't cut it.

It only $395 and they state a 30whp gain. I saw 35whp personally at one of the northwest dyno days on a stock car.

For $200 you get a guaranteed 20whp on a stock, cars will differ and theres no need to speend the extra $195 in my opinion.

JJ_008- Your car with a different I would guess would gave around 15whp.

My 2Cents... save the money and don't do the cold air intake (just get a K&N panel replacement) or the BOV (unless your stocker is having issues).

Check out my 1/4 mile times & mods list... that should tell the story.

I agree 100% - forget about an intake. They don't add hp and screw up your A/F ratio if you're running the stock MAF sensor.

If I only knew then what I know now, I would have stayed with just a TBE and a Vishnu Flash running the stock electronic boost control - I could have gotten a new short block under warranty.

intakes are fine if they are tuned i got 7 hp on my intake, people just are in this strange conspiracy idea about the intakes on evos dont understand why,i have personally seen dyno numbers on 4 different intakes all made some add. power with the air fuel mixture leaned or cpu flash,as far as for your money they are not the ideal choice for a mod but you will eventually need one. drop ins dont do jack!

If you are set on an intake, Pina will have two of mine for sale in a couple weeks. I need to make an appointment with them to get a hard pipe fabricated to match my stock airbox to my 3071. One's a Buschur and the other is a AMS. I'll also have a Buschur and a Turbo XS MBC for sale there too. Cheap prices.

What do you consider lopey? HKS 272s aren't bad at all if you bump the idle up to 900, I hardly notice it.

My recomendation for a "stage one" (since people only want to mod their cars in "stages" )
Full TBE, if you don't mind noise and aren't an environmentalist ditch the cat, there are easy ways around a CEL
Drop in filter
Lower ic pipe
Cams, lots of choices here, for most cars the HKS 272s, FP2s, Revolver, or GSC 272s will work great. Read more and pic what you like though, there's a lot of options there
Walbro 255
Reflash and bump up the boost

"stage two yO!"
High pressure wastegate actuator
New BOV (JDM metal or Forge gets my vote)
Alcohol injection, best bang for the buck mod you will probably ever do, how about 25-28lbs of boost on pumpgas sound?
Around this point getting a small battery with a short routed UICP is a nice idea, but you might want to start saving for a clutch. You'll need it.

That's my .02 cents worth.
