He is currently going through chemo and radiation concurrently, and simply put, it is extremely difficult. He could not go through this if he weren't retired because he cannot sleep and cannot eat, consequently he does nothing but go for his treatments daily. He is 65 and was in excellent physical shape before the treatments. He has lost thrity pounds and is a shell of the man he once was. Here are a couple of facts that I have learned about lung cancer:

Lung cancer is the most deadly form of cancer by far because no syptoms appear until the cancer spreads.

87% of the lung cancer cases are of the non-small cell (bad) type, of those 87%, 95% of the people are or have been smokers.

I would not wish what my father is going through on anyone, nor would I want anyone to have to deal with what I'm going through, so please for the ones that love you quit immediately.

I wish you the best of luck, and keep reaching for the support that is neccessary to quit.

Sincerely,

Jim

I’m sorry for what you’re going through and my prayers are with you and your family I know it’s not hard, I lost my grandmother to cancer, Breast, Lymphatic, and Cervical.. She wasted away and it was horrible.. She's one of the reasons I'm quitting... I made a promise when I couldn't make it to the funeral, that I would quit by 2006. And I'm sick of being run down, and out of breathe. Thanks for sharing and the support. I'm sure I speak for the majority if not everyone here in saying “Good Luck, and speedy recovery to your Dad, and our thoughts and/or prayers are with you, your Father and your family in such a troubled time".

Thanks, To be honest and a little cheeky to JeffR116 and Nitrous2k3 I've lost my ever loving mind, and the overdose of Tea and now Peppermints has made me crazy.. but really to be honest posting here, and enjoying the frustration, headaches, cravings, and down right sillyness is making it go a lot faster..
THanks for the support and well wishes.. Good luck and God speed to your father...

I quit January 3rd. This is my third REAL time trying to quit. Usually i get the patch, which works really well to take the edge off. The thing i am doing differently this time around is that I have quit drinking as well. I was always able to quit without much problem that first week, but after I get a beer or two in me i just couldn't resist. So no more drinking for a few months, then i can ween myself back on the booze. The biggest key to my success so far this time is that I also started working out and running the day that I quit smoking. Whenever cravings would get too bad i would excercise or run or something. After a week of exercise you start feeling so good about yourself you wouldn't dare smoke. Well its been four and a half weeks now, no need for a patch, and I've gained 15 pounds of muscle. I FEEL GREAT. Good Luck

while your at it you should start a light cardio. workout and gradually build up your level. at first it might be hard. once you get to the level when you use the deeper part of your lungs you will be glad you quit. i quickly revert back to thinking about that same thing whenever i think about smoking and i apologize to my lungs and my body everyday .
