Safety Equipment Must Haves - List 'em!
Hey guys, it's Trisha. I know I haven't talked to all of my friends from NorthWest Evolutions in a long time, but I wanted to share some pictures of a friend's car accident that just happened this week and make sure that you all know about the modification that saved his life...
His racing seat belt harness bar. That same bar that is in Ryan's Evo. When my friend Luis rolled his white 2005 Evo8, his roof caved in quite a bit, but his GSC seat belt harness bar kept the B-pillars from collapsing and saved his life.
He's pretty beat up still, but all he did was hit a curb and his car rolled a couple of times. (Ironically, the wing was completely unharmed... What gives??
)
I hope everyone is doing well up there in T-Town and everywhere else in the northwest, and hopefully this will help someone in the feature should their beloved vehicle end up shiny-side-down.
Please be careful up there guys, and keep the rubber to the road. Love you all!!

Here are some of my favorite safety items:
- High Performance Driving School - first step is to AVOID the accident.
- Cell phone off button.
- The dining room of BK (as opposed to the mobile dining room in your Evo).
- The volume knob of your stereo cranked all the way to the left.
- Both of your hands placed on the wheel at all times except shifting.
- Lots of following distance.
- Predicting when the other guy will do the wrong thing.
- Blind spot mirrors and oversized rearview mirror.
- Deep or troubling conversations with your wife/girlfriend/friend after you get where you are going (not during).
- Not driving when upset.

Tell your friend to pay attention next time.
Thanks, guys!!
I appreciate you all adding to the list... Obviously preventing the accident in the first place is the best way to keep yourself safe. BUT... what I'm looking for are modifications that take the Mitsubishi's factory safety standards to the next level.
As for rolling a "couple of times", here in Florida we were in the middle of a hurricane warning and when I thought I moved AWAY from the rain, man was I wrong!! It may rain 24/7 up there, but when it rains here it is more of a flash flood... So my guess is that hydroplaning and low visibility (in addition to whatever else he was doing) had a hand in it as well.
I really do miss all of you guys, and every time I see an Evo get the slightest beat-down I think of all of you back home.... Play it safe!!
(Cesar - Of course I remember you, silly! I rode with you up to Seattle when we went clubbing with Jo, Chris & Kory! You're driving was GREAT!)
(Congrats, James!! I'll email you for more info!
)
Have a great day, everyone! *MUAH*

your friend was lucky that it landed on the passenger side. I strongly recommend against using racing harnesses in a car without a roll bar. If he had a 4 point on and the room on the drivers side came down on his side like it did on the passengers side your friend would likely be no more. be safe out there.
You should definaely have at least a harness bar if you have raicng belts, otherwise drive freakin safe, and quit driving up my insurance!!! How's the weather in hurricane season Trish? I spent 2 years in LA so I kmow how bad the durtty south sucks.

I'm in Orlando, and most of the storm is hitting out on the coast near the Tampa-area. It's a good 1.5-2 hrs away from me. Too bad it won't stay that way... lol
Nobody else has any safety mods to post? What about the best all-weather tires they've found for the Evo? or the best racing harnesses with a quick-release? I'm looking for specifics here!
Have fun guys, I miss you all!!
Trish, Just wanted to say hi. Sorry about your freinds accident. Hope you are having fun in Florida. I think safety mods have a time and a place. Sometimes they can save your life. Sometimes they can kill you. If you have a roll bar in your car and not wearing a helmet and you roll your car, good chance of hitting your head on the bar. Harnesses with out a roll bar in a roll over could hold you vertical in the seat and crush ya. But they all look cool. The factory saftey equipment works well and has been tested and tested. Unless you are racing your car. I dont see any purpose. Anything can happen to anyone at any time. You dont know what will work until you are put in the cituation. My 2 sense. Later

Florida is basically at sea level so of course there are gigantic puddles after it rains...so slow the **** down and you shouldn't flip your car multiple times from hitting a damn puddle. In fact, go take a driving course so you know how to drive better. Sorry if I'm being honest instead of just saying "oh that sucks..."
