To be honest I am not sure why the car was only boosting at 12psi when I brought it in? I must say I was hoping to get to the 350+ whp mark but the turbo just ran out of breath. But I as a whole I am very happy with my experience with torquefreaks. The install work is top notch and the customer service is great. I want to thank derrek for a silky smooth idle and a car that pulls hard Now I just need to decide on a turbo that can help me achieve my goals of 350+whp.

Seriously, something is fishy here. I dynoed at TF last year with 03 9.8 HS turbo and same mods as you are at 320WHP on pum gas at 21PSI. With Alky you should be above 350WHP, unless there some sort of restriction (like i had for a year gaskets from stock 2.5 exhaust on my 3 inch HKS exaust until they broke from pressure. (that added 10 HP, haha). Piece

We use a boost control solenoid (which in this case bi passed the manual one), so that when the methanol runs out, it triggers the solenoid to open up which in turns sets the boost to a minimal level.

We set the level to where Derek felt comfortable with the performance being reliable. When we go for numbers above a threshold we feel safe going, we like to have the customer there giving us permission (in the case of ifarted2 getting 340HP).

evo8guy will be coming back in to get some minor things taken care of, and Derek mentioned to me this morning that if he wants us to turn up the wick with him there, then we can shoot for the bragging rights numbers. We aim to please...

Your mods even with the stock turbo should get you to atleast 350whp. Your car coming in with 12psi tells me that something was wrong from the getgo unless you turned the boost down that low.

I also wouldnt worry too much about the dyno numbers, it should be a fun car and perform pretty good at the track.

I spoke with derek over at TF and he invited me back to put it on the dyno for some further testing. He wants to make sure that my boost guage is correct and se if we can squeeze a few more ponies out of her.

I'm having a friend do the install.. I have a SMC kit, which doesn't really have a fail safe. But there is the lean run protection built into the Xede. Do you guys have any experience tuning with the Xmap Xede software?

We had evoeightguy come back for some investigation into the numbers. Here's what we discovered:

Turning up the boost kept giving us higher peak torque numbers (got as high as 347), but did nothing for peak horsepower. The peak torque was hit right when the turbo came on full blast, about 3500RPM. At that RPM, the boost was higher. It hit 27psi on the highest attempt. But in every case, the boost dropped to the same 20psi at redline. That's close to where the peak HP number was coming from. So, even though we tried 21psi-27psi on the boost controller, the boost was always the same ~20psi at the peak HP point. That's why he made the same peak HP number as mikiblueyes, he had the same boost at peak HP. He made gobs more torque down low, which you can really enjoy while driving. Remember, peak numbers tell very little of the whole story, don't get too caught up on one number.

Now, Ifarted2 made 340WHP on our dyno because he has a 05 (which comes with a larger turbine housing on the stock turbo), while evoeightguy and mikiblueeyes were 03-04 (with the smaller turbine). The 03-04s with those mods drop to ~20psi at redline, while the 05 turbo on Ifarted2's car was able to muster 24psi at redline.

It says in evoeightguys mods that he has the bigger 10.5 hotside.

For now, I'm thinking he doesn't have the turbine he thinks he has. It responded exactly like a stock 04 turbo. Would not keep up the boost. Tried two different manual boost controllers, exact same result. Peak to set point (22-27psi), fall to 20, everytime.

Compared to other maxed out 03-04 dyno runs we had on the computer. Power looked the same at peak.

It could be some other restriction we are missing, exhaust perhaps, like mikiblueeyes mentioned.

Someday when that turbo comes off we can find out for sure.

Yes, we can tune the Xede.

Of course, you could just sell the Xede and get the same results from flashing the ECU directly......
