Very good point I am in the same boat as you I have an 03 and would like to get an 9 but that is more money. I was so close to getting one over father's day weekend. But I didn't you know what I am doing though turbo upgrade. I will be faster and still have the same car payment. Just some food for thought.

also think of this intrest rates are on a rise so if you have a good rate now keep it. Even for people that have perfect credit there rates are 6.75%

To say the 9 feels tighter, I would have to dissagree. Maybe it feels tighter because it hasn't been screwed with yet. Many guys and gals get the car, start putting in electronics and stuff and once you start loosening stuff up, suspension parts ect, its just not the same. Personally, if you owe lets say 23K on an 8 and your willing to spend 32K on a 9, I think that is kinda silly. The 9 would not justify the almost 10K difference you would have. Make sense? Its not 10K better. I also here you saying my friends have "plenty" of 9's. I wonder where this is, I know in southern california anyway, the high volume dealers are lucky to get 1 car a month, so where are they getting them? haha. Must have rich friends too wow! But don't be discouraged because you have a 8 and they have 9's, its not "keeping up with the Jones's" here. Performance wise, they are very close. A tenth here, a tenth there makes a world of difference on the track, but not in daily driving as I am sure you do. Its up to you, I love the 9 as I did the 8. I don't like one better than the other and since you only owe like 23-24K on the car, it makes no sense to get deeper in debt. Especially since the 8 is a very good car. Just my opinion. Keep the 8.

Since he posted it in the Northwest section, Id think its safe to say that he is in that area. There are about 7-9 of us in the NW that have IXs. I happen to be one of his buddies with a IX. I have driven both 8 and 9s, and I am inclined to agree with Towelie. The incremental changes may not be worth the extra 10K difference, but the performance per dollar threshold is alot higher. Yes the cars provide very similar performance figures stock, but once you begin to mod, the differences are entirely more noticeable. I dont think that Towelie has any intention of keeping his car stock either. $1200 for high 11s on pump gas? Good luck on getting that on an 8 without nitrous or race gas. And I dont think its keeping up with the Jonses. My last name is not Jones. This is simply the car that I wanted.

I owe 17k on it, if they give me 23k for my car I'm okay with that. 30k OTD for non SSL minus 6k = 23k financed. I financed 20k last time and my payments are 350/month. Negligible difference for me.

I've had my 03 since september and in that time I got rear ended and lost the car for 3 months to the bodyshop, everything behind the rear doors was replaced. A bit over a month ago it was wet and I entered a corner too fast and my right rear hit a curb and killed the control arms and sway bar (a la Speedware horror story thread).

I drove Laggins new MR for about 10 minutes, and I have a couple other friends with IX's that I've driven well over 100 miles each. I do notice the difference and my 03 seems like a rickety piece of **** now.

Pro's I see with the IX: nicer seats, 10/100 powertrain warranty, 11's for 1200 in mods, front LSD and ACD, brand spankin new.

I bought an 04, and I was heart broken when the 05 came out and it was faster. Then I was heart broken again when the 9 came out and it was even faster. All this heartbreak made me realize something. There will always be something newer, faster, and better. At what point do you stop because you are happy with what you have? When you and your family are 10k in dept? 20k? 50k?

When I first laid eyes on the Evo 8 I thought it was the coolest car ever. I had to have it, and luckily I was able to afford it. I don’t know about you guys, but after I bought my car I would find myself walking into the garage and just staring at it for no reason. It’s a great car. I know it’s not as fast as my friends 9 or even some people’s mod’d out 8’s. It may **** me off a little on track days, but you know what? None of that matters when the weather is nice, you got the windows down, the music up and nothing but curvy mountain roads ahead of you.

We may not want to admit it, but there is a lot of “keeping up with the Jones” happening around here. Everyone wants to be bigger, badder and faster. I guess it just boils down to what’s most important to you. Maybe you live your life one quarter mile at a time, if that’s the case, go big or go home. I guess ultimately what I am saying is, if you spend the extra dough on the 9, make sure you are getting it for yourself and not someone else.

That’s my two cents...

What is the interest rate you are paying on your current loan? Also, you either buy a IX for the warranty or the ease of modification. Not both, as any dealership will void all of your warranty the second they see the modifcations.

this is the only thing that will sway me in trading for a new one. it has been beaten up, rear ended and what not. otherwise, I would have kept it!

If my car hadn't been in any accidents there is no way I would trade it in.

I agree, I'm more practical with the loan/money side of it and can't see going further into debt just to be up to date for something like the evo. All of them are awesome in their own right no matter what year.

You guys are also forgetting some important information on the 9! Mivec system is not that great for being able to support upgraded turbos. No offense and I agree that modding a 9 will yeild you more power for the dollar but if you were to just put a small turbo upgrade on an 8 and you will be kickin the 9's ***! Been there and done that! Do what you think is right, if you don't like your car becuase it's been replaced and you think it rides like hell, buy the 9, throw a flash and a boost controller at it and call it a day.
There is always an evo that will be faster, louder and quicker. If this was keeping up with the jones's we would all be in debt going after AMS Soon to be 8 second evo.

i doubt you will get much more than 20k on a trade if it has been in two accidents...
