Tradin in Evo for GT-R 33
edited post - I shouldnt state information that I dont know first hand. I am mistaken if I condoned illegal activities.
Why would you want to go through the hassle of getting a RHD over here in the first place? just get a half cut RB26, or purchase the motor by itself..then put it in a 240sx for thousands less than what you would pay to import the entire car...

hmm GR33 was the worst model made, if you are intrested, in a few more weeks-months some japanese guy in so cal is almost done legalizing the GT-R. but.. i love the way R33 looks, but it was the worst model made. the R32 is faster, and R34 is the strongest, and R35 is comming soon.. 2600 it sounds reasonable.. but think real hard, your selling a brand new for a used.. is it worth it?

Keep your Evo. With the amount of money you'll spend to get it legalized, not even knowing the condition of the car, you'll be thousands more in the hole for something that isn't even that much better. Those Skylines you hear about setting records and such cost hundreds of thousands of dollars to build. Also, have you researched the prices of available parts? If you're planning to build it to specifications high enough to justify getting rid of your current car, you will probably have been able to buy two or three Evos. If you have that kind of cash, invest in some real estate and buy one in a couple of years
.
I agree with the previous statement about missing a decmial place in your conversion; check terra2imports.ca to see how much older Skylines are going for on auction IN JAPAN. There's next to no chance that you'll ever get a Skyline for under $3000, unless it doesn't have an engine... or a suspension... or seats... or like, any possibility of driving it ever.
Believe me, I was at this point at one time, thinking that maybe someday I'd be able to swing getting a Skyline, but the more research you do the more you'll find that the car is more hype than anything. For the price of a legalized stock Skyline you could build an Evo that could destroy any Skyline on any playing field. That sounds pretty good to me. I'm thinking that after the US Skyline releases, the overall fanboy-ism will begin to die out.
Anyways, good luck with whatever you decide on. If you're looking for extra cash, you can always give this a shot: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/One_red_paperclip

Evolegion,
I am sorry if I sound pesimistic but I share the common idea with everyone in this forum that importing a Slyline is absolutely a nightmare financially. The burocracy is such that it is not even worth.
I don't believe is feasible to spend $2600 for a car that you don't even know the shape or condition then pay 10x times that price to finally legalize it here.
In the event that you succesfully bring that car here you will be compiting with a tough competition, I take a brand new Evo 9 before I take a use R33 but that is just me.
Granted the Slyline is a heck of a car the overall concept of bringing the car here is still not worth. Think about getting parts, think about insurance policies, think about someone stealing your car.
Just my .2c
