Good Ole Beaverton Mitsubishi
I now have my own little something to say and I sure hope the few of you that work there or are friends of people who work there post up or send me a private message. All of you or most all of you know what I have done to my car. For those of you who don't, It's not stock ( probably an understatement). Here is my story.
About a month ago my BF came up to me after bringing his Evo into Beaverton Mitsubishi and told me that he had spoken with one of the techs there. He had told the tech of my problem with my cars tranny( basically has grinded in 4th since I got the car) as well as the mods I have on the car. The tech told him that they have been replacing alot of modified cars tranny's lately and have gotten the evil eye from corporate so they needed to back off for about a month, but after that I could bring the car in and if there is a problem they should be able to take care of everything under warranty. 4th gear hasn't really been that big of a deal since I got the car, we just figured it was part of the cars breaking in process. The car has been modified since including 2 stock clutches and a few weeks ago a high performance clutch as well as synchro mesh which didn't do a thing to help with the gears. In the last few months or so third and first have started grinding and feeling a little mushy ontop of the 4th gear problem, so I brought the car in last week to Beaverton Mitsubishi.
I go to sit down in the waiting office and watch as the tech drives my car out of the lot and punches it onto Canyon Rd going easily into 6000 rpms. I was so pleased to know how professionally they were handling my darling baby. I of course had to call my bf to tell him of the wonderful news. 5 minutes later the car drove back into the lot and right inside of the shop area where it sat on the ground for about an hour ( I know I watched). An older man then walked in to the waiting area to say in a very unhushed voice infront of other people in the waiting room that ' Your car is heavily modified so all of your warranties are void including your powertrain" I said ok and asked him what they found. " Well your 1-3rd synchros are gone as well as 4th and your reverse is going as well. You have a very aggressive clutch which is also slipping. ( as I noted earlier the clutch is brand new). Your looking at about $3,000" I said ok feeling completely embarassed infront of these other people who were staring at me, but he then said he was going to have the car washed, so that made it all better right!? and he went back into the office for about 15 minutes while my car left and came back and sat there. I called the bf again and he said I needed to get my keys and go. I looked into the office and the man was on the phone looking at my car in the lot. I waited a little longer and then asked him if I could get my keys. He said he just had to finish up some paperwork and then I could go Oh and that the car wash was no charge blah!. I waited for the papers to print out and by this time I'm almost fuming. The lady asked me to sign that they had looked at the car so I did, which now I think I probably shouldn't have done and I got out.
Later that night I read the paper she gave me. it said the car had a nitrous intake system, exhaust ( which I was told was under warranty), aftermarket clutch ( why does that matter? They don't warranty their clutches?), ecu, and automatic shut off which must be smart people talk for something I don't know about. I don't have nitrous, never have, but they are Mitsubishi Techs so they must know all these things I don't! They never opened the trunk where the Meth is so I'm assuming the wires they saw meant they had to do with nitrous.
Now I'm not pissed off that the car isn't under warranty ( that's a no brainer). What pisses me off is the disrespect they had for my car while driving it irresponsibly where I could see it (who knows what they did down the street) and that they couldn't take me into the office and discuss my cars matters privatly. Dealerships seem to pride themselves on how much more professional and better they are then a Jiffy Lube or Quaker State, yet people treated my car and I a hell of alot better there then this place. I must have gotten the one ding dong in service there since I've heard better things in the past. Is there a certain person in service I need to ask for over there? Am I going overboard? Is this how they normally treat cars? Do I need to call them and let them know some of the information they put down is wrong so they can correct it in their computer if I ever bring the car back there? Do they report the VIN number and take it off of warranty in some worldwide dealership system? Thanks for any help.

wow thats sounds pretty crazy! how the heck did you go through 2 clutches on an 06? i used to have a little notchiness going between 2nd and 3rd. do you get on your car a lot or what? well anyways sorry for the bad news. the dealership i bought my car from has fixed stuff on my friends cars when they had problem but there were snoopin around. i hope somethin good comes out of this...
The 6speed transmissions are weaker than the five speeds and more spendy to replace. I would look into a 5speed conversion. That would also help at the track because you wouldnt have to shift to fifth. Also for a clutch go with the exedy twin.
who did you go to talk to there? There are 2 techs that work with evos, Andy and Mike. Andy is quite decent mechanic. I hade my tranny rebuild there by him twice so as many other people.
I don't have the guys name he was an older dude with a graying mustache. Kind of pudgy. And I race the car, that why it's been through so many. The clutch I have now is alot better and definatly holds the power better then the stock clutches.
I'm sorry, but I just don't understand why people think they can get warranty work on cars that have been so heavily modified.
I agree that your car was not treated well and their lack of knowledge on the report (nitrous, wtf) was laughable.
However, since you self-admittedly race the car, how can you possibly expect them to warranty anything at all? Everyone knows racing is hell on all parts of a vehicle, and if Mitsubishi was expected to be everyone's personal race shop (on their dime, mind you), then they would have been out of business long ago.
I usually hate to call people out, but this is kind of ridiculous in my opinion. People expecting warranties on cars like this are the reason why people with very lightly modified cars (like myself) have such a hard time getting work done.
I haven't met you, Zoom, so no hard feelings. I'm just expressing my opinion.

from my understanding about why they lanch your car at high RPM's is because they have to test for the slipping in the clutch. i know its an ugly thing to do but alot of things mechanics do to test you car to see if its working is ugly. my friend works for ford and if a customer complains about the traction control not working but the computer reads no faul then the take it on the road get going 40 mph and fully crank the wheel... if the flip it doesnt work if it doesn't then they know it works.

J.D.
For once I have to agree with Jimmy on this one, as the disks are smaller and such on the 6 speed. A bad thing if you are wishin to go 500+hp on an MR.. you don't see many 600+hp MRs (actually I don't think I've seen any). Ralph tuned me in on this fact so the mighty MR in my eyes sunk on the tuning side.
I also find it funny about the ego on the statement of "My car is not stock (as that is a major understatement)" lol.
Once you put on your first mod, you gotta come to expect that most places will not hold that under warrenty. Mountain Mitsu is actually good about this as they still help out on stuff if your car is modded. If you wana stay warrenty and still mod.. do the WORKS program (at mountain mitsu) or Ralliart (as its Mitsubishi) and have it installed by a certified mitsu shop.
Otherwise you're coasting down a hill on an empty tank of gas, you might go fast going down hill but once you hit the next hill, you're done for. So carry a fat wallet/purse.
Sorry if this was repeated but I thought I'd put in my 2 cents ;D don't take offense Zoom. Not trying to insult you if I came across that way.

If you guys had read my post you would have seen that the reason I brought the car in was because the Mitsubishi tech had told my bf that they have been fixing trannies on modified cars and that they should be able to fix mine under warranty AFTER my bf told him what I had done to my car. I didn't just jaunt my way on down skipping to my loo and twirling my hair to ask if they could fix my stock car at no charge.
Airpoppoff I see that you know me personally to have grounds to say that I am...you spell it DUM... I'm glad to know that is coming from someone as mature as yourself. Let's see what else constructive you put in your post..... "wtf are you kidding me?" hmmmm. What are you saying wtf for? You leave the audience wondering. He must mean wtf to Zoom's first post? Or was it to her second post? Or maybe to the whole thread?
Towelie, your turn. I've said it before and I will say it again. Never have I seen a positive post from you. I have a meth kit. You use 100 octane I see. As a companion in racing additives please tell me what a meth kit does to my tranny? And after you have read the first paragraph in this post could you rephrase your question? Oh and without a Ahahahaha, WTF, LOL, LMAO or any other irrelative group of letters you can come up with that has to do with this thread.
Urban DK and SASD209 thank you for your posts and no hard feelings taken. As I said before the reason I brought the car in was because of the tech. Maybe Beaverton Mitsubishi needs to fire him for misrepresentation.
I didn't post this to become a bash Zoom fest. Just to try to get some information and clarify some things. For those who have helped, thank you.

Her car has a MAFT pro which makes for a bit more work to make it look like stock again.
I have been working on AWD mitsus for years and would never launch to see if the clutch is holding. A good role on in 4th or a quick 3/4 shift with a slow clutch lift will tell me all I need to know about the clutch.
Also I would think if thay really would not work on a car with mods thay should not have even test drove it. I could tell real fast buy looking at the car with no factory air meter, Exhaust, gauges, boost contorller that it would be moded to much. So if the car was slow would thay have worked on it?
Sucks thay had to go Joy riding in your car.
