76 = British Petroleum = Arco. I've never used 76, I thought it was the same quality as Arco.

I use shell mostly.

76 is owned by Conoco Phillips now. When 76 was independent, their gas used to come from oil reserves off the west coast and was refined in west coast refineries. Don't know if that's still the case now.

Interesting that several people mention they prefer Shell. In SoCal, Shell had the worst reputation of all.

To tell you guys the truth, you will notice more of a power difference in a 10 degree drop in weather than putting chevron/76/shell in your car. It's not really a big deal for me.

I checked out the Factoria Shell selling 93 octane - it's a pain to get to from the north (although there are some nice curves from 405 / SE 8th). This is such a small, 'out of the way' station with nothing at all remarkable other than all the preumium pumps were labeled 93 octane. After filling up a whole tank I noticed no performance difference at all, so I'm not sure it's really 93, or worth going back regularly.... Maybe if I had a 93 octane flash it would be better, but then I would worry about filling up anywhere else.

There's the answer to your dilemma Chris. 93+ octane gas for our cars won't do much unless the ECU is taught how to make good use of the higher octane dino juice. Unfortunately once you get a flash or custom tune for 93+, you'll have to use that gas or you will get knock. That's why I chose to just use 92 with my custom tune as the places that have higher ratings are so far and in between it's not worth the extra HP. Now I don't know what I'm going to do when I go to California on a road trip. Better inject more meth/wate than normal to help with the knock issue and do periodic WOT logs to ensure there is no knock.

lol - what did you expect, a WRC service park? you're right though on the performance gain / benefit. Using 100+ is very noticable (my EGTs go much higher), but if it wasn't this close to where I live I wouldn't bother with the 93.

WTH, I stopped by at the factoria shell yesterday to fill up, and all their pumps now are labeled as 92 (not 93 anymore). Oh well ...
