What is the best Evo to build?

I have an Evolution 8 that I want to start building up. My issue is that I am getting mixed feed back on building my Evo vs. getting an Evo MR. I understand the differences but I am just curious if I can get the same results from my 8 with buying upgraded suspention parts etc. (the only real benefit I see is the 6 speed on the MR). I am looking for some input before I make an educated choice.

What type of racing? If the answer is any, you are better off sticking with the 5 speed and getting something light like the RS. If racing is going to be an occasional thing, a GSR isnt a whole lot heavier that it will make a big difference.

6spd MR is unnecessary... stick to the 5 spd.

Stay away from the 6speed.
If you want the MR suspension just find some used Bilsteins.

VIII 5 speed . Preferably with the 10.5 hotside, 2005. If you are going to really "build" one then an 2003 VIII to the max is the way to go. IDK 20k for an VIII non mr or 35k for a IX mr, you tell me whats better?

I agree, why spend 15K more on a car when you can use that 15K in performance parts and DESTROY a 35K IX mr!!!!!

OK I'm kind of lost. You're asking which Evo is the best to build but you already have an VIII, so are you planning to sell it and get the Evo that's best to build? Also, you say you want to build it, but you don't want to upgrade the suspension parts, so you just looking to build the engine only? If that's the case why should you even care about the MR. All from the IX down have a 4G63 engine it.

I think you should describe your plan more clearly so the people in the EvoM community can help you out.

I was mainly looking for an educated input from the community. I have a friend thats a tech at beaverton mitsubishi that goes on and on about how building the MR is a better way to go. It didnt sound right to me so thats why I wanted to ask.

I dont really have an exact start point for upgrading my car I just know I want a solid daily driver that has a serious punch. I read about what you guys (and gals) are doing to your cars and I want to get sound advice when it comes time to upgrade.

I hope to meet you when you have another get together to see what you all have done and hear about what works and what doesnt. I do apologize for being vague on the thread

its kewl to ask, but you will get vast opinions. sounds like to me you need to do some searching on evom, you'll find alot of useful information. try the newbie section, at least you will find out which path you will be taking.

honestly, asking whats a better build is like walking into costco and asking sum1 what to buy for u. take sometime and read the info in newbie section, then u'll get a better idea of what to do.
