Friday (7-13-07) Race at pacific raceways
I don't think it has shorter gear ratios. I'm only working with 1750 rpms bewteen shifts. I dunno if the 5 has a smaller window than that. And I don't think it's weaker, percent wise there has been more 5 speed transmission failure than 6 speed. So
The USDM 5spd and USDM 6spd tranny's aren't made by the same people and the 6spd is actually weaker (and doesn't handle heat well...ask Ralph (voidhawk) on here if you like) so chris is right here. If you search around on the forum you will come across the information on this.

Well that just makes it prone to overheat but does it overall make it weaker hmmm..... I got my Exedy HD twin today, man this thing is heavy. So lets see how long my tranny will last now
Damn Kevin, can't believe you've been living under a rock. Do a search nOOb and you'll see what Dwayne and Chris said is right. Oh and about your new clutch, we all know with your driving you'll find a way to kill that one too. Lmao

Rental car racing FTFV. I am gonna run mad tyte 17's in a stock auto Focus I think. If I end up teaching the girls how to drag race and have a passenger 18's.
As far as the 6 speed, the definitive info thread on 6 speed failure is the "Track ***** MR" thread started by Razorlab (Bryan). It has all the tech and all the answers about the shortcomings of the 6 speed. Kevin's problem might lie in driver control or not having the clutch restrictor removed from the slave. I am still on the stock clutch and have been for 19,700 miles.
I have made 100 passes between last year and this year and only smelled clutch twice. The first time I launched it on the street and the 2 step didnt work and I did an 8K launch. The second time was at the track when I let someone else drive it for a pass and it came back stinky. It still holds up just fine with the Green, and even though I only have one timeslip to prove it, the 11.54 my car ran is not the first time nor the fastest it has run. I do have datalogs of faster passes (the night the lights malfunctioned at SIR).

Will I bet if you broke down the % of broken trannys the 6spd wins hands down. Of corse you are going to read about more broken 5spds due to the fact that 95% off all EVOs in the world are 5spd.
Also I will take a small grind any day over broken gears.
Once the EVOs start getting over 100k the 6spd gears are going to be breaking alot more.

Exactly, 6 speeds arent the choice for drag racing. Jason, what did your last run end up. We left right as you guys got back to the parking lot. I managed a 17.26 @ 80 in the rental, 17.5 @ 79 with a passenger. Autos definitely launch easy though.
