Blown Motor???

Today i was driving home at a steady pace of about 45 and my car has been making a few noises (none that i thought would be harmful) and came to a bump in the road and slowed down.
As i sped back up pulling first to about 4 grand, and second to 4 grand, and third to 4 grand and at a certain point the motor was maing a knocking noise for that rpm and then it went away as i slowed down or accelerated.
So anyone have any input on what could have gone wrong?
I need some any answers?

You that high schooler i ran into in the albertsons parking lot a while ago?
Have you got your trans looks at? i had that happen when i had my 3000GT it was the syncro's. It did that for a bit then stopped, then i lost 3rd, got it back, made noise again, then all went away. But i still replaced the trans, then traded it for my Evo a week later. lol
If it is your trans theres a guy in lake stevens east across the street from texaco. I got a bran new trans for my old car for $1200 when thats how much a referbished was. Hes a cool guy to.

didn't you just make a post about a new tune you got? Don't remember if that was you, but you might want to hook up with someone like JB to log and see what is up

I agree, get in touch with John Bradley to do reviews and maybe if there is something wrong, he can definately help you tune it out (that is of course if its a tune situation) but in the mean time I would recommend not getting hard on it at all, I've somewhat had a similar problem in the past, got together with JB and now I'm golden, I almost want to believe its your tune

i know its not his tune, the tune is perfect for the car, and conservative. he just had tranny work and a new clutch. plus when i talked on the phone with him yesterday he said its only at a certain RPM, what in the tune would only make noise at a certain RPM? well anyways im positive its not the tune. i will look at the car personally.

In his other post he said that he did overboost, but I agree with evoRS06 it sounds more like a tranny problem if it is only happening at a certain RPM. If the engine was internally jacked the frequency of the noise would be directly proportinal to the RPM in most cases.

Transmissions howl or grind, they dont knock unless something is broken and then they do it all the time. I am not questioning the tune, but the arguement that what in the tune would make it knock at 4K is the same as what in the tranny. If all the sudden the car overboosted and hit 36 counts (hypothetically) it makes a sounds like driving on a washboard almost.

I know in the past Lilbc had issues with overboosting becuase of his AEM tru boost (and some other issues because of parts, injectors or something I believe) and he contacted me about that. I dont know what he is using now for boost control but if it malfunctioned, possibly wasnt reading boost correctly and it spiked to 28 and read 24 or was inconsistent at what RPM there could be a cause.

I dont think this is a tune simply because this noise goes away when the car either decelerates (okay that would make sense on a tune, letting off) OR ACCELERATING? I am understanding this correctly that if you keep your foot in it it goes away?

True the noise does go away when accelerating past the rpm, range and decelerating. I can hold the throttle at the rpm and hear the noise. My tranny just got rebuilt and broken in les than 3000 miles ago and a new clutch. Is there anyway it could be a detonation problem?

A knock would occur at a typical RPM if the load was consistent.

Well you just said a good exp. "My tranny just got rebuilt" doesnt mean they didnt mess up.... or something went wrong. It sounds like your trans. to me.

Question - is it a specific pattern of individual knocking....like a tapping one after another?

Or is it a a rattling....like a chatter that rolls consistently from one noise to the other?

The first of which is a sound that could be consistent with valve train issue.

The second of which is a sound that could be a differential issue.

Neither of which are conditions under which the car should be driven far in at all, if either is the problem.

the question i asked was more of a retoricle question, but i agree that there are variables that could lead to it being the tune, but all in all i think all the speculation wont really help you Brandon. If you really want to know what it is then you need to have someone look at it.

Everyone saying the tune was ****ed up i know for a fact is wrong. The tune was perfect and still is perfect. My motor was looked at and it is a blown bottom end. I believe it was the cotroller popping and boosting too high. But it is definitly a rod knock and the tune had nothing to do with it.
EvoRS06 is a great tuner and i hope to be tuned by him and helped through the build process by him.
Motor will be built and im looking for some input on IDEAS!!
