Because its easier to get for some people. I have used filters I've gotten in the autoparts store soley because it was convenient.

I second the use of oem. can't go wrong at all with that. but if you need one, I would stray away from fram at all costs. Wixx(sp) are pretty good, I think the NAPA Gold are manufactured by Wixx also. Honestly I would rather put a few extra miles past an oil change to avoid using anything out of convenience.

Actually the OEM filter is outsourced from cheaper manufactures and the quality changes batch to batch (I have been told its not very good at all). I have heard from various people that deal in these areas prefer WIX or Amsoil only. There are some test floating around on Micron rating and Amsoil was the best followed by WIX and M1 (which iirc no longer make an evo specific filter, I believe the lancer one works though).

If you really need some concrete info speak to OilDoc. He has dealt with these products for 30yrs and has a wealth of knowledge. Also has incredible prices on Amsoil products.

Buy a WIX...seriously if people knew who made the OEM filter or how good it was I guarantee they wouldn't run it anymore. They reccomend because it came on the car...like Mitsu is known to use the highest quality parts.

Napa gold (wix) is a good filter, as I use it frequently on oil changes.
