So was I...4th gear in the 5sp is almost the indentical to that of the 6sp. You will shift to 5th in the 5sp almost when you have too in the MR. Atleast the MR will still pull quite well with the superior 5th gear ratio.

I made 175+ passes on my six speed. The failure was my mistake not the tranny. What happened was I was in the middle of a race and was running out of power because of the stock cams. I was already at 8k and thought if I run it out to 8300 like I usually do I am going to lose. I shifted to 5th REALLY REALLY hard and burred the slider and took out a retainer spring on 6th. I lost by .03 running an 11.54@118.7 to 11.51@122.7 (turbo Honda hatch on slicks versus my 18's).

8300 in my car with my tires and a 6 speed is 124. Now with the same tires and the 5 speed its 127.3, so it is defnitely worth doing. I have an VIII box that needs rebuilt and the IX first and input shaft. Then I will have the 1.03 4th instead of the 1.09 and be good for another 5-6mph at the same rpm.

Comes down to power and what rpm it drops off really.

I forgot to add that I didnt have any gear damage at all with the power level and pass count that I have had for the last 2 years. The pictures of my gearset were around here for quite awhile but I don't think there was anything to report really. No signs of heat, no chips or burrs to report. I do not think the 6 speed is worthwhile for drag racing if you want to go really fast. I bet I could have been pretty decent with it the way it was if I had bigger cams and less drop off. Now that I have S2s and got the Green figured out I bet the 6 speed wouldnt have been quite so bad. When it gets the SMIM I know it wont be anywhere close to the top end slug it was when it made the 11.54

You get the HID's, aluminum roof, and BBS wheels on the SE too. But I agree, MR's and SE's won't be the least expensive Evos all other things being equal.

^^Hence the reason why I said I believe the SE is the best all around evo.

But who around here has enough $$$ to buy an evo just for a track car. 6sp may be indeed all out weaker at high hp but will all the highschool kids that now get these cars they get wrecked 90% of the time before they get the chance to dump the clutch enough times
Look carefully around the NW forum. Several people here either have them or have had them as weekend/track only cars. As soon as I sort out my condo stuff this will be track only too....

You go to every track event, which besides Auto X, includes drag and HPDE/lapping days, between PIR, PR, Bremerton and Spokane (when it was open)?

You get around man . nothere (easy current EvoM example of the above) probably hasn't seen you at a track either....

Gary and Eric who were also pretty active on this forum back in the day have sold their cars as well (Eric's old car is owned by someone in Portland who dd's a vette and pretty much only tracks that Evo too...he is on here but I forget his name....).

Hey guys, do you know anywhere that will have an Evo IX in stock? I only find private sellers and some weird dealerships but it seems that the Mitsubishi dealers don't have anymore IX huh? What dealers do you guys to through for the Northwest...everything I found is closed!
