Factory brake cooling ducts/guides?

did ya'll know Mitsubishi offers factory brake duct kits? Just ordered a set from WORKS for $159. I hope they're worth a crud, and if they're factory, why didn't my car have them new?

Do you have a picture of them?

Maybe they were an edm or group N option.

They are just little plastic scoops all MR's came with. They seem to help a tad I suppose...although you can easily get them elsewhere for almost $75. Works prices are marked way up imo.

Hrmm, sounds like a letdown, I don't have any pics, I just ordered them after spending an hour on the phone with one of their engineers about my brake issues from my last track day. It sounded like ducting that 'attached to the control arm mounts up to the holes in the front bumper... guess I'll find out in 5+/- days...

What brake issues did you have? Pads & fluid are the key, but proper ducts can help a lot.

He tends to fly off track at PIR due to brakes not working efficiently. Scares the crap out of me everytime I see it since I've lost control before and it didn't end so well.

I don't know what it could be. From what I remembered, he had a good set of Ferodo's. And I'm sure he's using ATE Super Blue or dot4 equivalent. As for our stock Brembo's, they hold up pretty damn good at HPDE's for any 20 to 30 min sessions, 4 sessions a day, with just a little fade at the end of the day. And that's without any ducting. I believe there is a more serious issue going on then just pads and fluid.

$100 used to be a bit more around the average price last time I looked at them if they are just the OEM ones that divert air upwards.

But the description below

Seems different in some places. And this:

Is the one I would do if I was super hardcore. The downside with this is that they are only guaranteed to work with the stock brembo setup. So if you've upgraded them they may/may not work.

Edit

Yeah its the same one. Here is what he's getting from Works (going off of price):

And here's the same thing from Mitsubishparts.net (scroll for it):

I read up in the Motorsports forum: not a lot of positive reviews on these.

I instead went with the Forged Performance ducting kit, and mated them to Ferodo DS2500s all around. Even with the ducting, I was getting a bit of fade, so I switched to DTC60s in the front: problem solved. I'm running ~320whp, and 255/40 AD08s.

bottom line, I don't think you'll see significant advantage from going with the guides, at HPDE.

I was getting SEVERE brake chatter. It felt like severely warped rotors, but after checking runout, the worse of the 2 was out .004"

aha! I got that with the Ferodo's up front. I thought I had warped a rotor, so replaced with blanks.

Chatter came back after 1-2 track events.

Replaced with the more aggressive DTC60 compounds, and they ate right through the pad deposits from the DS2500s.

2-3 sessions later - still no problems.

Not sure if this is what your problem is, but I picked up this information from the Motorsports forum as well

good luck
