That sucks, John.

What parts did this transmission consist of? Do you know what exactly broke? What were you doing when it let go? Miles? Just curious. I'm scared of going back to E85 in fear of shredding another tranny?

ER re-assembled a blownup Shep stage-3 (with 4-spyder) after I blew out 4th gear, so basically a billybadass trans with all of the shep and ER tricks. Not a huge number of miles, a few trips to Woodburn, Portland, Renegade Pacific Raceways, hmmm, now that I think about it, this trans has lasted through some pretty good abuse at the 600 (t67) to >700 (fp3586) awhp level. I've been running 2qts NEO RHD & a top off with GM Synchromesh. The fluid always looked clean when changed.

I was cruising on the freeway in the center lane, 65-68ish and kind of rolled on it to switch lanes when she grenaded (big noise and lurch) I'm guessing that I ripped a tooth out of 5th. (I hope so as that would be the easiest fix)

I also have a dis-assembled TRE Stage-3 (with 4-spyder) that I ripped a tooth out of the input shaft, no other damage as the magnetic drain plug caught the tooth. I've already bought a new input shaft and bearings to fix this trans, looks like I should have finished that project last winter!

I just cracked the case on mine: Looks like 4th Gear decided it had enough:

At least it didn't take out the 4-spyder center diff!

When I shredded 3rd, there was very little that it didn't take out with it.

You got lucky with that one!

I should learn how to fix these myself, I spend way too much money having other people do tranny work for me.

I agree, you should get a consistant tranny and stick with it instead of spending your money on random trannys. Less chance of catching an STI that way.
Zing!

But what if I enjoy random trannys?

Some day I'll spend a couple grand on one, when Shep's or Jack's big 3/4 gearset has proven itself... and my pockets are a little deeper.

I would just hate to spend $2500 on a tranny and 3rd or 4th lets go and takes out nearly everything inside like my 1st one.

Thank You English Racing

I brought a box of broken parts down to them today and they managed to put together a good transmission for me.

Looks like I'm back in business as soon as I slap it back together.
