Thanks guys, as mentioned earlier, the more interest we can garner the better chance we can get NASA in the NW!

I heard back from Greg and he's got me in touch with Ryan Flaherty <rflaherty@drivenasa.com>. Waiting to hear back from Ryan as I've asked him if anyone has started the business side of this in the past and where we currently stand in the NW. Will keep folks posted...

Here's some possible time trial stuff coming up. I'm not associated, just sharing the info.
You may have already received this message through Motorsportreg.com but I want to make sure we reach as many people as possible. This is still in the planning stages (cramming) so if you have questions please ask. We will need people to help as well (Flagging, Timing, Registration, Tech, coaches, etc). BTW, we may be also using the transponder system.

We are looking at an additional event to our season THIS YEAR at Monroe (Evergreen Speedway) on October 22.
Entry will be limited to experience in Club Trials and up. (Sorry no PDX) Experience will be necessary to participate. Prices will be about $190-$200 each plus weekend membership for non members.

If this is something you would want to participate in we need to hear from your ASAP. We need at LEAST 20 Drivers to attend.

The final decision hasn't been made until we know if we will have participation. All Regional/National licensed drivers can participate in Track Trials. This WILL BE A ROAD COURSE.

Please respond to this email, or send directly to me sherri.masterson@gmail.com or call 360.710.2291 (Text accepted (Verizon)).

Final decision will be early next week

Just heard back from Ryan Flaherty and he's introduced me to John Lindsey who is NASA's Chief Division Director and manages all their regional operations...

Is there anyone here who would be interested in running the business aspects of a NASA NW region before I get too involved in discussions? Personally, I have interest in the participant side of the deal...

What all are you referring to when you say the business side? Is this organizing events and keeping track of members? I would probably be able to do this, but would need more info.

That would be my assumption, I haven't gotten into the nitty gritty yet but this is the best resource I've found that outlines what would be expected: http://www.nasaproracing.com/resourc...rt_region.html

INTERESTED IN STARTING A NASA REGION OR CHAPTER?

NASA is looking for people in other areas of the country to start additional NASA regions and chapters.

Regions are geographical. Chapters exist within a region. Example chapters within one region may include road racing, HPDE, Drifting, Auto-X, etc.

There are many factors involved in starting a region, and on the top of the list is availability. In other words, is there an existing region already in place in that area? The national office defines the areas and regions. Assuming there is a need for a new region in the area that you are interested in, you must possess these qualities:

Financially stable.
Able to dedicate full time attention or hire a full time employee.
Able to assemble a business plan.
Excellent credit and past history in business matters.
Reliable, punctual, and can operate with the highest regard for professionalism.
Excellent references.

There are many other factors involving the upstart of a new region.

Here is John's response:

We have had many folks pitch us on the idea but no one so far has been able to get a region going up there. Let me know if you would be interested in perhaps pursuing the idea and we can talk further.

Thanks.

=======================================

I don't mind beginning the discussions, and getting momentum rolling, but I would much rather someone else takes the lead as far as business side of the plan...

krisiun - is this something you'd be willing to do? I'd help in any way I could, of course...we can also cross post this on other NW region boards...

Just got off the phone with John and got some great information. Planning on talking to some of the groups that currently run track days at PIR.

Anyone (jid2?) have great relationships with the folks that run events at Pacific who can do the same up north?

I can talk with you beforehand to let you know the types of things we're looking for...

Started talking to folks in Portland (club folks) to see if we can continue the momentum rolling....

I think one advantage we have is that car/track clubs dip from a smaller pool of attendees than open NASA events do....

Anyone up north want to help me with the Washington track clubs? I feel that it will have to be a collaborative effort throughout the region to get this off the ground...

Have sent an introductory email to Cascade's Board of Directors as well as Eddie Nakato in hopes this will begin serious discussions on beginning a business plan down here on the Portland end.

Still need someone from the Seattle area to help coordinate this with us...

I talked to Gary Bockman, Director at Cascade Sports Car Club this weekend, and he was very receptive to the idea. The good news here is that CSCC has all the contacts around the NW as well as safety crews on payroll. The NW organizations often hire them to run their events already so it would be a great fit.

Relayed the information to John at NASA so he is going to get in touch with Gary and let me know how it goes. Will keep everyone posted...
