Hi All,

My 2006 MR is in need of new front brake pads. I was wondering what the experiences are with pads other than the Mitsubishi factory pads. I'm looking for high torque, low dust, good mileage and little rotor wear. (In that order) If I change from the factory pad, should the rear pads be changed at the same time?

Who would be a good source for these pads?

Actually,

Brake Torque is the fraction of braking pressure applied to the front brakes (in the front brake section) or the rear brakes (in the rear brake section). The maximum brake torque is calculated as friction * area * bias * max-pressure * radius


Or if you will, a brake pad that generates high stopping forces with low pedal pressure. Hence the term "High Torque" So in a way a high torque brake pad is your long moment arm.

I would say that you should just get the whole set, you can better judge your usage of the new pads. I just bought a full set of Slotted Rotors and Magic Pads from Girodisc (local..in Bellingham). I have had great results with these after just a week of usage, these work far better than the OEM (wood) pads.

I bedded them in once and and have already put over 1000 miles on them. On Saturday I went around the Mt Rainier loop and I put massive loads/strain on them with the all the corners and braking zones. They work phenomenally and really don't make much dust compared to many other pads. Just my .02

I just got some girodisc bailout rotors and stoptech pads. They seem to work pretty well.

I have the gyrodisc magic pads and they are indeed just a little better than stock.

However, based on your stated needs I would encourage you to go with the Ferrodo DS2500 pads in front. They have improved stopping power and are relatively easy on the rotors with good life.... Dust is a little bit of an issue with them, however I apply a few coats of sealant to my rims prior to mounting (and every 3-4 months) and dont see why people complain about dust so much. it wipes off with gentle agitation and mild lubricant based soap.

Yes, I do Plan to change the front and rear pads. I'm also looking into new rotors, also front and rear.

Has anyone also installed the braided Stainless Steel brake lines? Are they worth the price compared to the stock lines?

From Johann @Girodisc...username here is Girodisc Martin. Get a set of Rotors from him at the same time.

As far a sources around seattle, you won't. But you order tomorrow morning you will have them wednesday afternoon (it only takes one day for delivery to the puget sound area).

I will be buying SS lines very soon and you WILL notice the difference from installing them. Others can chime in on reason why, I gotta go!

By the way let me know if you get them and I will help you with the install and we can grab a few

I have a new set of agency power brake lines for sale if anyone wants them.

I agree with Ryan, the ds2500 pads are really good. They bite hard and hold really well throughout a long hard brake.

Sorry to stealing the thread but, has anyone had any experience with Porterfield brake pads and StopTech 1 piece slotted rotors?

I bought stoptech pads for front, $102.00 with tax. I now brake late latter.

I don't know the current offering from Porterfield. I used their pads before on my Europa Race Car. They worked very well, but they would completely eat the rotors away. This was on a 1200 pound car using solid disks.

We used Performance Friction Pads after that experience both on the Europa and the Formula Atlantic cars. At this point in time they are my favorite manufacture for brake pads.

Having said that, I took the advice from McLaren and ordered the Stage 2 Kit from Giro Disc in Bellingham. I am looking forward to trying their pads and rotors.

Nice..did you get the "Stage 2 Light" or the full "Stage 2" and did you get the Magic Pads with it?

The full Stage 2 with their curve vane rotors, magic pads, SS Brake Lines and Fluid.
Unfortunately, they are out of stock on the lines so they are shipping me the rotors and pads. I'll do the brake line install later.

I'm really pleased that Giro Disc can ship today and I'll get them tomorrow. My wife and I are planning a little driving trip this next weekend and we really want to drive the EVO.
