Trying to get my boost back to normal
Trying to get my boost back to normal
This is kind of a long story, so stick with me here.
Pretty soon after purchasing the car, I started going over it, seeing if anything needed to be fixed/cleaned up. The IC was painted black, so I removed the bumper to take the core out and strip it. I found that the EBC had one line plumbed into one of the IC silicone coupler. The only thing "sealing" it was a hose clamp with a hole drilled in it.
I had a thought that this would have to do with my over/under boosting issue.
I took the car to Ishii Motors (awesome people) to try and make heads or tails of the boost issue. They had to replace the coupler, reset my ECU, and unlock the EVC. It seemed to work for a little bit, then went right back to the old problem. EVC is broken. They hooked me back up to the stock solenoid. I'm only boost shy of 1bar.
Finally, I got information from the previous owner by way of the dealership.. Mostly about what has been done to the car. Thankfully that 60k service was done. And a Shep trans put in. But they told me that it had been tuned for the Evo 9 turbo installed to run at 23 PSI and bleed to 21.
I've been trying to read, and figure out what to do really. I've found that my low boost is common after returning a car to a stock solenoid after being tuned on a boost controller.
I'm weighing the following options to get my car back to normal:
-Install a 3 port EBCS, and get tuned against that.
-Buy a new EVC, and try to figure out the config that the car was tuned against
-Buy a MBC and try to figure it out/get it retuned.
Right now, from what I've been reading the 3 port option seems best for a mostly stock set up. One thread I saw with some one experiencing the same thing is that the wrong boost pill was installed. I haven't checked.
But any way. Any further advice/input would be good.
Also thanks to jdmEviL8 for answering some of my questions last night

It's hooked up as indicated on the little diagram under the hood
I'm just getting it tuned to where it was. The time was set to a more retarded setting, as it was tuned for more boost. So my A/F ratio is kind of rich.
From what I understand, we're just going to adjust the requested boost load to work with the timing that's already been adjusted.
I'm having the shop that tuned it previous adjust it. They're helping me out, as apparently they know this car pretty well. But they're saying to stick with the stock Boost solenoid. They may just be doing a boost pill mod. But I guess that's where I'm at?
