how do you know the TC is dying? My first fp-black sounded like TC death-whine (or at least as close as I'd be able to describe it) as the blades were creating the "whine" when coming up to a specific speed.

 

well my turbo wont spool now until like 5K rpm... (usually it was between 2500-3000) and when the turbo spools, its hugely delayed, and not a whole lot of "get up n go." I'm running the stock VIII turbo, with 58,000 miles on the car. I'm not sure if the owner before me ran something else and threw a used one in or what the deal was...but its a bummer

The "whine" that I'm hearing is more like a scream, from 1K RPM to about 3.5K rpm. It's high pitched, and very "solid" sounding, if that makes sense? It started small, and at first I thought it was just an engine whine or something normal...but it's gotten louder...fast. In the past 3 months, it's gone from barely noticeable to the point where I almost have to raise my voice to be heard over it.

It does it when the RPMs are increasing, and decreasing from about 3.5K to 1K...From what I've heard and read, it seems to be the TC. I've youtubed a few videos of the whine of death, and it sounds pretty similar.


Any advice or somebody willing to take a ride, and hear it, or feel it would be much appreciated.

You might just have a boost leak. Do a boost leak test.

If your turbo is bad, I found you an Evo IX turbo some guy is selling in Spokane. I'm waiting info like price from him.

 

Also, I do think it's your tcase. I could hear it loud as hell when you left the shop yesterday.

 

yeah, ive got about 5k left on my Tcase, so it's going to have to last me until I get back from Afghanistan.

I am also gonna buy a new clutch, because it's been slipping for a while now, and it's over the top bad now.

Suggestions on the clutch anybody? Looking for some performance

Well if it's a turbo I got a 9 turbo im selling right now you'll just have to get the install kit! But sucks to hear about your tcase man that's a bad Friday the 13th!!
