Aircraft and snow

This should be pretty interesting here in a few minutes with one of our planes that just landed. The flightline on the airfield hasn't really been plowed at all, so it's just mostly snow covered ice everywhere.

"Essential personnel only" all day

Hope you got some snow tires on, and that you dont live on base, if so, enjoy your multiple watches

Im f18 myself. Of our 12 jets, 3 are in civilian care in a 45 day inspection, 2 at topgun, 1 broken apart in civlian care being rebuilt due to a large chunk of the boat flying into the jet, and 1 just had an engine stall in flight, boroscoped it, and blades were missing, chunks of other blades missing, crack in the engine, very ugly site. Just hope if u need to do maintenance, they bring your crafts inside, but with snow, i dont see them towing anything.

Sounds like fun on the flightline! I stick to my 130s.

Which Squadron? I was in VFA-105.

Tow our aircraft inside for maintenance?...you're crazy, Our hangar can only fit to P-3s, the ones across from us with the other 4 P-3/EP-3s can hold 3 angled in (same design as 106's two hangars). Only when I was in the Gunslingers did we ever tow our aircraft inside for wash jobs or maintenance. However the past two days have pretty much been snow days, Tuesday I was already being compensated for working Saturday, then Wednesday when it snowed again I woke up to a text saying work was secured . Tomorrow should be rather interesting, one of our planes is a airlift for our reservists this drill weekend. Icy as hell out!

Outside my shop

buddy checking the spot we intended on using that daycheck cleared for us, but the Pilots didn't believe us when we said nothing had been plowed since they left.

they should install a 12000k HID, yo! damn that would suck (literally I suppose) to be that guy on the deck directing the plane.

I had to keep in touch with the aircrew and call for fuel, but normally I'm out there with my buddy you see in the video. Love the sound of four turning Turboprops!

HIDs wouldn't work they take too long to warm up, plus there are two 250watt bulbs on the nose wheel, that is bright as hell and blinds you when they forget to turn it off once they line up with you.

wow! Four turbos in that plane? Must be fast!

Im in 213, a mech, complete other side of the line. Slingers actually have 1 of their jets in that 45 day inspection crap. Have you heard they plan on doing some sort of a-frame like contrapment for working on top of aircraft, its to prevent ppl from falling off the jet, amd encourage others to try and be spiderman on top of the jet.

Btw, is ur buddy rlly wearing a float coat? Or just looks like it.

Good ole Black Lions, I remember when them and 31 were the remaining Tomcat squadrons (I was TR waist catapults at the time). I'm a mech as well, thanks to PTS for converting me from AM to AD(FTS) when I reupped in '09.

Yeah we have that out here now, called "Fall Arrest" program, pretty much you're in a harness with a cord on a pulley overhead, however we don't really use it much lol. It's pretty pointless, because it's not like you have that system on the flight line. Gloss paint is dangerous! One of the planes doesn't have non skid on the wings like it's suppose to so if it's cold and slick out, you probably will fall off, I almost did one night.

Yes, it's a P-3 thing that I've never been able to comprehend why, but it's dumb. They aren't Plane Captains either, just handlers (really just a move director) so yeah lineshack is full of blue and yellow cranials and floatcoats. Of course none of the coats have any of the guts they're just used as "vests" and as well as Yellow wands lol.

I made the 08/09 cruise on the tr before it went into the yards. Just got off the bush deployment not long ago. My eaos is in 23 days. I made e4 too late and was alrdy set up for reserves and such, wasnt enough time to try and risk re enlisting at the cost of guaranteed reserves.

Yellow/blue huh? Abh's? Just seems odd.

lol i hear ya, Yeah I'll probably hit HYT next year as it is, FTS is more locked up than regular navy. Yeah we have a couple ABH1 reservists in our shop, the active guys have a ABH1 in their lineshack as well. Who would have thought ABHs can go to squadrons..
