Rims , tires & more.

Hello,

new to the forum

advice on wheels and tires. Want new look for the summer

i have a 2012 outlander sport se - black

have the 18" on now....can i go to 20"? Has anyone gone up and have a story for me? Spacers - fitment ? I had an endeavor before this , and couldn't get 22" without having real thin tire (40 or 35).

Looking at vct romano - chrome with black

with the extra weight from the bigger wheels, what can i do to avoid ultra slowdown. Car not quick to begin with

should i get cold air intake? Is their a chip? What should i do

thanks and please give suggestions !

A tasteless joke at your expense. I'm a jerk what can I say.

Evo = EvolutionM Outlander = OutlanderM

Lightbulb

For the Outlander Sport SE:
Stock Wheel: 18x7 (25 lbs)
Stock Tire: 225/55-18 Goodyear Eagle LS-2 (29 lbs) 27.8" Diameter

Optional sizes that are the same or close to stock diameter:

215/70-16 on 16x6.5, 16x7 (cheapest size for snow tires, stock ES size)

225/60-17 on 17x6, 17x6.5, 17x7, 17x7.5, 17x8 wheels (Good snow tire size)

245/50-18 on 18x7, 18x7.5, 18x8, 18x8.5 wheels (Good summer/all season tire size with wider contact patch)

245/45-19 on 19x7.5, 19x8, 19x8.5, 19x9 wheels (lower profile, better response, harsher ride)

245/40-20 on 20x8, 20x8.5, 20x9, 20x9.5 wheels (lower profile, better response, harsher ride)

Going with the wider wheels will improve the response of the tire assuming you are in within the size ranges it can mount on. As the wheel gets bigger diameter the weight will increase, but usually the tires will drop in weight a bit as there is less sidewall so it's not always a killer of performance if you stick with lighter weight wheels. The Tirerack.com has some great info as far as comparing all the tire brands and what will fit on your car.

Good info but the wheel size for the 20's are not 18's. I think 20's are way to big and way to heavy for the sport..... I personally would not go over 19" and I would make sure its a lightweight wheel.....

does anyone know the offset of the stock wheel?

Oops, corrected the errors...

No idea of what the stock offset is but it might be on the net somewhere if you search.

As far as weight between the 19" and 20" wheels saying that 20's are way to big can be your opinion but the sidewalls are still somewhat tall compared to say an Evo X with 19" wheels and 275/30-19 tires. If the overall weight of wheel and tire combo is within 1-2 lbs it's really going to be a minimal difference. That said going with a lighter than stock combo certainly won't hurt performance.

For example:

Stock weight 29 lb tire + 25 lbs wheel = 54 lbs

vs

245/40ZR20 Continental ExtremeContact DW tire 26 lbs

20x8.5 MOTEGI RACING MR126 wheel (+38mm) 22.55 lbs

Total weight: ~48.55 lbs or about 5.45 lbs lighter than stock per corner!

You will have to talk to the people at Tirerack.com about offset and determine if they will be flush with the wheel wells or not.

MPG would only be negatively effected if the weight is more than the stock setup, no idea what those tires or wheels weigh in at.

OP,
Those are some bigfoot rims, impressive..
(I'm guessing you've kept your stock rollers just in case of a snow storm?)

20" vct

Yes, I like the way it looks. Rides great, im only on my first tank of gas since, so we will see. I do a lot of highway driving, but i do an avg of 75-80 mph so my mileage has never been that great anyway.

Yes, putting my stock wheels back on around december....doesnt get cold or threat of real snow in NJ until late december / january.
