Power Steering Concerns
Power Steering Concerns
So we have electronic power steering as opposed to the standard hydraulic assisted setup (or w/e it's called).
Normally, when you lose a serpentine belt, you just lose the POWER steering, but still have manual control of the vehicle.
What happens if we lose all power? Is there still a manual connection?

(I don't have detail schematics of our steering rack.)
But, I do believe we have direct drive to the steering knuckles. It's part of the fail-safe mechanism, the way I'd imagine if I design it.
The way I test to confirm this is simple -
1. Active your Accessories (No need to start the engine)
2. Move the shifter out of Park into Neutral.
> You are able to turn your steering wheel and the wheels respond accordingly.
(This simulates the event of "losing" all power from the engine & alternator & [del]battery[/del]..)

I havent tried it in the OSport, but my Veloster had push button and it was like a car jacking feature. You had to hold the oush button for a few seconds in motion to shut it off, that way you couldnt accidentally hit it while driving. Should work the same with the O Sport. Then you run away woth the key amd the would-be jacker is stranded and Blue Link tells you right where your car is. Hyundai didnt advertise it that way, but my counter-terrorism side of my brain saw it that way.
