New to the site

Hello everyone,

Just wanted to say hi as I am new. I found this site as I was trying to find out about crusts of
dry coolant on reservoir tank. I am glad that there are others finding things out and trying to
come to a resolution, good job!

Anyway, I have a 2013 Mitsubishi RVR SE 4WD in black labrador and 11,254 km so far. Its my first Mitsubishi! I just love it. Its fantastic on the road, great fuel economy and hugs the road in corners. I have had it since august and right now in the winter its been great! I can't believe the grip I have in stock geolander all season tires. I am in 4WD auto mode and have not had to put it in 4WD lock at all. I have never seen the traction control light up either. For those interested, I usually drive in that mushy snow about 6-8 inches that is like butter on a country gravel road(they dont plow that often) and in 4WD auto I just go through without a hickup. These stock geolander tires have excellant grip, but there is always a compromise it seems. These tires are stiff and NOISY. Holy man are they ever noisy on asphalt roads. But I can live with that for now given they have decent grip.

I dont know why I always see reviews complain about the power, 0-60 etc etc. I dont have any issue with whats on tap, I mean you wont win any drag races but honestly why would you want to race from a stop light to the next stop light to be there first and have to start the process all over again. I have noticed that if you take off from a stop gently the fuel economy is excellant, as soon as you push it harder, the fuel economy drops like a rock. I guess its a sacrifice if you want to be the first off the line. I
am getting about 7.9L/100km so far and I am in 4WD auto. Thats if the temp is -10C or warmer. When it dips to -15C to -26C well it jumps to about 9.8L/100km but thats understandable.

I was wondering if anyone else has noticed the seals in the front of the hood. I have attached a picture. In area 1, there doesnt seem to be any and in area 2, its not snug, in other words salt spray etc gets past and gets on everything. Is everyone elses this way or is mine in need of replacement etc? Here where I live salt spray is abundant and I dont want it getting in the engine bay.

I will put a whole picture of my rvr once I have a chance to get it cleaned, I dont like what it looks like all cover in salt.

Cheers!

First,
Welcome to the clan, glad you found our forum.

Secondly,
No, it's not directly related to stoplight to stoplight power... It's mainly about the power needed to get onto the onramp of an expressway. We have very short onramps and the time you need to accelerate up to highway speeds takes much longer (and is Unsafe) when you don't have the power to do so. Especially when rude drivers tend to "squeeze" you while you're just trying to merge in.

Lastly,
I have noticed our engine bay does tend to get dusty quickly. But, that's probably because we have such a pronounced grill that just sucks in the road debris. I'll have to check and see if my hood seal is like what you described.

Perhaps, that's a DIY Hood-seal Mod we should look into...

PS: If you still have crusty coolant, have your dealer check it out like I did.
That reminds me I need to recheck the spring-clip on mine, since the last time I mentioned it.

I never thought about onramps that are short, its never been an issue for me as most here are pretty long. I guess one could go to manual mode and accelerate that way. The CVT does tend to drop rpms to be efficient and it does it pretty fast. Well in that case perhaps the CVT(in auto) is to blame not the engine? In manual mode I guess you will have to get those rpms past 2500 to get that kind of merge power(if its enough) and at that rate the little engine is going to be noisy and not so efficient.

It would be great to know if the seals in the front of your hood is like mine or not. I don't think there should be a gap between the bottom of the hood and the seal, otherwise why have them to begin with. I usually once a month in the winter(when its above -5C) and regularly in the spring/summer clean the engine bay with a damp cloth to remove dust etc and look for any leaks. Its just salt is corrosive and I don't want it getting in all the nooks an cranny's that I cannot reach to clean.

For the coolant, I cleaned the area, tried to see if the clamp adjusted or was loose etc and I will watch it to see if the coolant builds up again. If it does I will go to the dealer.

Cheers!

Generally, I would agree IF it was only guys who drive...

However, when it's my wife who's driving in this vehicle, the last thing I want her to worry about is to think about what gear she has to MANUALLY shift into get "more power"/acceleration > leaving it in CVT Auto and have both her hands on the steering wheel while concentrating to get onto the expressway Safely is the only thing I want her to have to deal with, in that situation.

Yeah, I'll have to check that hood seal in a bit...
Getting things ready for the gang to watch the Super Bowl! Go Seahawks!!!
