New Owner/ Is there a way to break in a new OS?

Hey new owner in Chicago. I have a 2014 outlander sport with the 5 speed manual. I have owner this car for about 1 day total and I have about 210 miles on it. I was wondering if there is a break in procedure for it?

Welcome to the forum.

Very few manual owners here, so it's hard to say..
For our CVTs it's around 5K to break-in.

BTW, hope you guys are staying warm up there. Looks like the Deep Freeze rolled in.

I got a manual too. I have been putting a very light load on the engine. In doing so, I achieved 35 mpg on secondary roads today . I current got around 80 miles on her so far. Each time I drive it I will take her up to 4k rpm briefly at least once. It is good to very engine speeds during break in. On the highway I vary speeds from 65 to 75. I plan on doing the first oil change at 3k then at 7.5k and every 7.5k after. Modern engines have such tight tolerances that "break-in" is a thing of the past I have been told. But I am old school and will break it in gently for at least the first 3k miles. I also brake very lightly to seat the pads and wear the rotors in nicely. So far, the relative lack of power is not a huge disappointment as I anticipated. I came from from a pretty quick GTI so I expected a stark contrast. I am pleasantly surprised so far. The manual tranny certainly makes the most of the power and not having 4wd lightens the load. So far so good. I am a little disappointed in the sport being assembled in IL by the UAW. There are some horrid panel gaps that probably would not have made it out of a Japanese factory. I just hope the rest of the car is assembled with greater care. I do 30k miles a year so I want this baby to take me to 100k with no issue.
