I Am a Bit Foggy... Need some Help

So my left front fog lens is cracked. No problem. I'll just get one from the dealer. I mean how much could it cost for a little 4" plastic lense? Turns out it, a LOT! LOL Like a couple hundred bucks (CAD). I mean just the lamp, no fixture. So turning to Google I find RockAuto selling them for about $140 CAD (~110 US) and then all sorts of knock-offs in the 40-50 buck range. Are these cheapies compatible?

Also, has anyone upgraded the stock fog H11 to Cree/LED? Those too range from like 10 to 100 a bulb. And does anyone know if it is possible to change the bulbs without removing the lamp and fixture from the bumper? I think my hand will fit back there.

I placed a metal mesh to protect the glass on the fog lights. I must say, I use the fog lights for its intended purpose only and the light intensity is just fine when I need it.

Yeah, that would work once I replace the cracked unit. Or Scotchcal. My other vehicle has the thicker Scotchcal (cost like 10 bucks) on the fogs and it has stood up to the pit run/1" minus they use on the roads here.

Just an update (mainly for fellow Canucks); the dealer wants $332.89 CAD plus tax or $350! Holy crap. They are out of their mind. Unfortunately I missed the last one in Lithuania at $49 US but found a replacement for $100 US shipped to my door. US seller. I am not sure what is going on up here but the Mits dealers are certifiably insane. Or their customers are!

not surprised, when you consider front and rear mudflaps are $250 .... for $10 worth of plastic.

Yeah, all the more reason to work mud flaps into the deal if you are buying new. BTW, you can get two complete fogs PLUS the steering column stalk for less then one lamp assembly from the dealer. PT Barnum must be running the parts dept.

Well, no stock in Vilnius, but I found a NIB pair for $116 US in Georgia (the US state, not the former Soviet republic!). Honestly - the dealer price of $750 a pair was totally insane. Do people actually pay that?????

where did you find this mesh and is it just pressed in, or did you have some other way of mounting it?

I have a large roll of this mesh (5'x 6' (?)) as a leftover from the previous owner of my house. I suspect it must be some kind of a construction material (judging by the size). It has been around for seven years in my garage before I found a use for it. I simply cut a circular shape to a proper diameter and pressed a bit in the center to give a slight semi-spherical shape to it. This was necessary to be able to use only the clamps of the plastic cover to secure it in front of the glass. Originally, I spray painted it to black but since have not used a primer the paint came off after a year of scrubbing like you see it on the photo. That is why no use to plastidip it either, although the rubber coat would provide additional energy damping upon impact. During winters here in Montreal we not only have to battle with a lot of salt but also small gravel, which is used by the city to reduce the environmental damage caused by salt (I suspect). The mesh is holding up great, does not rust and provides an excellent protection. May be a trip to Home Depot will be rewarding for you. I highly recommend using something similar. I cannot comment on the efficiency of a film. I did not have enough faith in those but they might just be fine.

I am very happy with the 3M film on the Pathfinder fogs. It was 10 or 12 mm, not the 4-6 they use for a clear bra. You can buy bulk mesh at http://www.twpinc.com/wire-mesh-mate...hardware-cloth But an even cheaper idea is go to Staples or Office Depot (is that place still around in the US?) and but a black mesh waste basket. Get out yer tin snips!!
