Recommended Engine Air Filter

I was considering getting a K&N air filter but saw some discussion on here and decided against it. What type of replacement filters do you guys use? Do you use the OEM version or an aftermarket replacement filter? Is there a clear leader in aftermarket filters?

Hard to find a good replacement filter, since Mitsu started using those 'diaper'** filters in the '13s.

**Don't know what that means...

I speculate the Cosworth filter that comes with their performance intake is a good filter, considering Cosworth's reputation of spending handsomely on R&D before launching a product.

Lightsaber does that intake fit OS 2014. I've been looking for one but the mas airflow sensor is different on the new models.

I think either Cosworth's drop-in OEM-replacement filter or Cosworth's cone filter (which has its size standardized in 2.5", 3", 3.5" etc. and if you have an aftermarket intake pipe, there should be a size that fits) should do the trick.

Thanks for this information! Will this Cosworth kit just bolt on to a 2012 'Sport, SE, AWD.? Would you know the part number of this kit? Many thanks!

Cosworth does not make an "intake kit/aftermarket intake" for the lancer or outlander sport. They only have drop in filters that fit the 11-12 OS. The pic that was posted is just an intake for a different model car. But the posts before was just describing taking a cone filter and some piping and making a "custom" intake.

Drop in filters available for 13+ are slim to none thanks to the diaper design. But there is OEM, Fram makes a filter as well(because I have it installed), K&N.

Looks like there is not even a decent filter from Cosworth for anything past 2009? http://www.cosworth.com/products/per...r-air-filters/

You can't usually find it on their site but they make the same filter for all the lancers including RA and EVO/OS/outlander that share the same air box. They don't make one for the new diaper air box design. Their site to me is really out of date.

I will have to see if I can find a Cosworth dealer up here to try. Thanks!

FYI. I did this on my mill at home, but all you really need is a drill, a bit, a tap, a file and a transfer punch is nice too. (not totally needed but I happen to have them)
Wife had the 2013 OS, we traded up to the 14 Big O, and like you said, the newer model need a different hole pattern for the MAF. I did a write up with pics on it, (search Big O or my Outlander mods) Youjust need to redrill a hole and tap it.

Just scroll down, it's on the first page. You can get the intakes that are available and just mod the mounting flange to accept the newer MAF.

As for a filter for the stock box, that I'm not sure on. I'm going to be getting the 16 Outlander this week (dealer delivering it now) and will be looking into what fits it, but I think it will be the same box size for the 2.4's in both the OS, and the Big O.

those are "hot air" intakes.

they will make cool whooshing noises, but likely cause you to lose hp.

save your money. Cobb Tuning doesnt even recommend an intake for the Evo until your well into stage 2 or 3.

I don't like the idea of an oiled filter. YMMV I would love to try a Cosworth though.
