Yeah, if I had a GT with the black glass roof, CF hood would be awesome. Of course it is in US dollars so that is lie a zillion CAD.

Well, I got the Takeda intake today. Instructions said it was for the previous generation Lancer. It fit, mostly. MAF was a bit different. I rigged it up to see if it'd work and I could just change that bracket with a Lancer one.

No go.

It bolted on, fit just fine. High quality part, very nice. I'll post the pics after work, so y'all can see. However, my OS could barely start. I'd have to rev the crap out of it to get it to keep running. It threw every warning light it had, even unrelated crap like ASC service.

It drove, very roughly, would not shift properly unless I did it by hand.

So the question is...do I just need to try another intake, or is this what the performance tune will take care of?

I've had intakes before, and even rigged one up on the Outlander...and never had this happen before.

Thoughts?

the MAF meters air based on a particular-sized opening. stick it in a different sized tube .... ????

i remember with Subarus, even some intakes designed specifically for a WRX (but not using the same diameter tube for the MAF housing) made them run like crap. AEM was one, if i remember right.

That makes send, if it doesn't sit in the center of the tube it wouldn't read right.

Assuming the plug is the same...think it'd be simple as getting a Lancer MAF and swapping?

Easier to just get a lancer but not likely.

After looking at some pictures, part of the problem is likely that the MAF is different on the 2014 OS...compared to the 11-13 Lancer and OS which appear to be identical. I need to compare the wires later, and try to find out if they're interchangeable.

RRM has a crap return policy, so I'll have to either make this thing work or sell it. I'd like to just get an AWD Lancer but I can't see that happening unless I wind up in a wreck.

it has nothing to do with sitting in the center, it has to do with the ECU doing calculations on airflow based on a known pipe diameter. you change the size of the pipe, you'll need to get tuned to change the MAF scaling.

assuming the plug is the same, a Lancer MAF is around $175 or more. does it work in the same range of data as the one in the OS? you'll have to figure that out.

so you're looking at around $275 for intake, $175 for a Lancer MAF (if it will even work in the OS), and $(?) to get tuned .... to make maybe 5hp and some whooshing noises.

i'm no expert, but this just sounds like an expensive bad idea to be cobbling parts together and hoping they work.

If it ACTUALLY works I wouldn't mind so much. I talked to RRM a while ago about this, and asked them specifically WHY the intakes specify they claim not to fit the 2014 model. I sent them pics and everything. They came back saying that everything would be cool except for possibly needing a longer hose to go to the crankcase or whatever that other hose is. Well, actually, that wasn't a problem at all, I had plenty of slack.

Looking further and comparing, the issue may not even be the diameter - it looks pretty close, though I will measure later. I work nights. It's time to go to sleep. I may have....had it in backward. But i had to go to work and couldn't drive the car the way it was acting.

The biggest issue is the SHAPE of the sensor. Mine is some weird diamond shape, and apparently before 2014 they were all rectangle.

Their return policy isn't terribly friendly, and I didn't catch this until the very end after I'd installed the whole thing.

So...I'm stuck. I either make it work or try to sell it.

There is a 2.4 AWD Lancer at the dealer at a price I could probably manage to trade for. I was planning on getting an old truck to haul stuff anyway, so that's also a possibility. I like my car, but I don't like it enough to not be able to do what I want with it, and to be cursing at it every time I try to merge onto the highway. I want/need more power...maybe that's what I need to go do. Then I can get mods all I want, too.

Yeah, after I ordered stuff that I was told would fit.

I had problems getting a stock air filter too. Seems like the 14 got all the little changes

Seems to me if they told it would fit/work they should take it back no questions. PayPal/credit card should cover that.

so the newer OS's and Lancer are no longer the same airbox.

is it the same as the Big O, or does the OS have its own unique setup?

I believe it has its own setup. The dealer said the airbox changed somewhere in the middle of the 2014 model year...which may be the problem I was having with the MAF and my intake.

Problem solved though...my honey wants to buy a Jeep, but wants to drive the OS for a while while she builds up her credit rating. And she's buying me a truck. We moved this week, and if her dad hadn't let us use his, we'd never have finished.

There's lots of decent looking trucks around for $10k and under, so we'll build her up a credit rating, and she can get her Jeep in 2 years or so.

She's not interested in mods, but she likes my sound system.
