2.4 Engine mods
2.4 Engine mods
Looking for engine mods for the 2.4 now that I picked up the new Outlander.
So far it's a bust for anything other than an intake that can be modded to use the new MAF sensor style. (easy mod, I did one on the wifes 14 Big O) what I haven't had any luck in, is finding the Aluminum Pulley for it. I'm sure it's the same as any other 2.4, but I'll need to check for sure. I'm also looking for the timing controller (like available for the 2.0 OS, etc.)
Ultimately, I'm looking to install the pulley, timing controller (or some type of programmer) improve the exhaust, and install an high flow filter in the stock box. Maybe even a header.
Since all the stuff I'm finding at the moment is for the 2.0, if you know of anywhere I should start looking, let me know. I've put up feelers in other forums; and searched on Google / Bing, but they are NOT much help.
hoping to here back from RRM and see if they have anything for the 2.4...
With all the new OS's now having it, we need to start getting a list of parts for us all to use.

update: Just talked with Rob at Road Race Motorsports, We went over some of the items for the 2.4, 4B12 motor. They've got some good items that show 2015 for the Lancer, but they will be the same as the other 2.4 models being driven today.
Biggest changes Mitsu made improvements to are the CVT and chassis of newer models. So reason seems to show that the same products will work on 2016 models.
That being said, they do offer the Aluminum Crank Pulley, the timing controller (which looks to be the best bang for the buck) a remapped engine ECM, header, and intake.
I'm going to check out the intake in the 16 this weekend or perhaps the TG holiday and see if it's something that needs modified. My guess, is that it might just be the MAF boss port on the intake that may need some attention at a tab being filed, and some new holes drilled and tapped to get it to seat properly. (I had already done this before on the wifes 14 Outlanders 2.4)
I'm not convinced at this point of putting on a short ram intake, due to the more streetability the UTE will see VS being used for actual HP gains. I may see about a drop in filter or fabing up a better intake to the box, and then a better, smoother tube to the throttle body.
From what I've read so far, Pulley, to reduce engine drag and timing controller with a drop in filter, will most likely be the best engine improvements that will bring out some HP and better MPGs.
As always, when I do get into this build, I'll be taking plenty of pics and marking them up for precise details. I'll give Feedback to RRM as well so they can update their page to what works on the OS and the Big O, to make it easier on the rest of us searching for parts.
Here's their link to Lancer 2.4 engine mods that will work on the OS and the Outlander.

I'm thinking of looking if there's a black Friday sale and getting the parts I'm looking for.

Gongrats on getting the new car! Even though your engine is the SOHC, 4J12, you might find a lot of information from the Lancer forum where people discuss mods of the DOHC, 4B12. Good luck and enjoy your new ride.
Correct. My conversation was about the similarities in the engines, and what Mitsubishi hasn't changed due to their investment in the current platform.
Current SOHC 2.4 is 166HP. I'm looking to push towards the 200HP level.

i seriously doubt you will get a 34hp gain from bolt ons (unless you are bolting on a turbo or supercharger) with this engine, unless you are going by vendors "claims".
Just like on the regular lancers whether its a 2.4 4b12 or 2.0 4b11 its not the easiest to break 200whp not crank since 166 is crank and not whp. now the cvt robs alot of power to the ground than the 5 spd. you would really need a good tune and some major-minor engine interanal work. i.e. just to name a few to start an intake(or drop in) full exhaust including headers/HFC or test pipe/catback exhaust swapping the throttle body to a 4g69 or evo x(i think the 4g69 is bigger off the top of my head), crank pulley, and definetly cams, and also a tune from someone who nows the engine

you'd spend $thousands for .... maybe 200hp.
call me crazy, but not worth the time, money, or trouble.

Please.
yeah, I'm on it....Gotta get some pics of it other than just in the driveway. I snapped a couple on my phone near the gravel drive by the house,,,, Not worthy to post. lol
I'm still here at the Hotel and won't be going back till Wed. night before TG. Good news is: wife and daughter/mechanic helper/boxing volleyball star/HS grad, are coming to see me and bringing my new Big O.
So after some research, emails and phone calls, I think I'm set for the Pulley, the timing controller and modding the stock tubes on the air box (smooth in,, smooth to the TB) and we'll see what we do with the exhaust. (intake side oil catch can too)
Questions I still need some help with or searching on are if I can get a larger TB to bolt up. Biggest Question is if I can swap the DOHC head onto the SOHC motor. Not sure if that'll be a for sure swap, but I'm really curious if it's do-able.
I've got the name and the look picked out for this ride already........ It's gonna be cool.
