CVT Recall

So some of you may remember me *****ing that my CVT sucks ***** and I would rather drive my 25 year old Camry because it has a smoother transmission. Well it looks like I wasn’t the only one complaining, I received this in the mail yesterday.

We have 19+K miles on our O.Sport (yes, wife drives a lot), I brought this up since day one of owning this car and they just wrote me off, I will not settle for a reprogramed “transmission control module (TCM)”. The life of my transmission has to have been shortened by the sometimes violent shuttering.

This recall notice is a bit (to say the least) strange. It does not specify the engine (2.0 or 2.4)
The two engines are coupled with different CVTs (see another thread for more info):

Hamsamich, do you have a 2.0 or a 2.4 L engine?

I do not wish to make a premature conclusion but here is how I see it. Mitsubishi replaced (and/or) reprogrammed the transmission for this:
"Meanwhile, 2.0-litre petrol ASX models with CVT automatic transmission benefit from performance upgrades that include a more responsive acceleration feel from a standing start and at mid-range speeds,...)
http://www.goauto.com.au/mellor/mell...257CDD00167D80
"Key change on the upgrade list involves the fitment of a next-generation CVT (continuously variable automatic transmission) which Mitsu says is equivalent to a 7-speed automatic."
http://www.kbb.com/car-news/all-the-...pg/2000010800/

The down side is that it is probably no longer a true CVT (must somehow suggest that is "shifting" and not droning to please people that is the feel part). Nissans are known to have CVTs that appear to be shifting (I drove a Rogue).
It would be interesting to hear from people like CottageLifer, who has both RVR and Pathfinder and FROM BMX RACR, who drove side by side a 13 and a 15 model year OSs.
The above would explain why Nissan has much more problems with their tuned JATCO CVTs. That could also mean that shifting (may even be paddle shifting) is adversely effecting longevity.
This last paragraph here is pure speculation based on some facts though.

I got this recall also but my CVT works just fine and I'm happy with it..I'm worried if they perform the recall that it may not shift the way it does now.

I have not received a notice for my 2015 2.0 but my buddy has received one for his 2015 2.0 (bought in August). Since I bought mine in October, I'm guessing my registration hasn't hit the mailing list yet. I've noticed a little shuttering at freeway speeds at a slight incline, like it cant decide what gear it wants to be in, but cruise control seems to do away with any issues.

got mine reflashed yesterday... seems to be doing better but i was talking to the shop manager and i told him that I've been reading that people think its because the simulated gears and he said that is exactly what he was thinking. I expressed my concern about having driven 19k mile with this issue and he said that the rep said that they are not replacing transmissions at this point but if the problem persist then we would take the next step.

here's my take on the Nissan CVT recent "upgrade" versus the Mits. Let me start by saying the Mits CVT is MUCH better overall than the Nissan. No motorboating etc. What Nissan claims is that they upgraded their CVTs to feel more like a conventional tranny. Ugh. So now, instead of smooth 6 speed equivalent, you get jerkier shifts, like a normal auto transmission going through shift points. BFD. What is also provides, though, is better catchment of error codes. Or so they claim. Our Pathfinder has a very intermittent THUNK at speeds between 30 and 110 kph that seems only linked to wet roads and moderate up/downhills. No codes captured though. Nissan had a nightmare with the Altima, Murano and other vehicles such that they had to give a 10 year powertrain warranty. Apparently at the root of many of their CVT issues was control valve. I know several folks whose Nissans were fixed by replacing this. Had something to do with fluid pressures etc. Whatever the reason Nissan seems to have far more issues than anyone else using Jatco products.
