46K service differential oil / fluid??
46K service differential oil / fluid??
I'm coming up for my 48K service and I was told I need to flush my front and rear differential fluid?
I see transaxle level check in the US manual that's online is this the same thing?
It seems expensive as its going to set me back $235.00 CDN.
Any info on this from members would be appreciated. I just did my tranny flush last time and that cost a bunch of money too.

are you asking if you need to do it, or how to do it? as someone who takes care of their cars and subscribes to preventative maintenance, i'd say it should be done.
its not difficult to do yourself, but can be messy.
i'm not familiar with the OS procedure (plenty of time to research that - wife only has 5k on ours
), but i've done it on other cars and it should be similar ....get the correct fluid. drain and fill plug (top and bottom) - YOU WANT TO MAKE SURE YOU CAN REMOVE THE FILL PLUG FIRST! if you drain the fluid and the fill plug is stuck, you're screwed. probably not a big problem with a newer vehicle, but better to be safe than sorry.
basically with car on flat ground, drain fluid into a catch container, and put drain plug back on. remove fill plug and fill with fluid until it begins to overflow the fill plug. put fill plug back on.
i've done it on low-slung sports cars that i needed to use a Harbor Freight fluid transfer hand pump to get the fluid in, but the OS/ASX should probably have plenty of room under there to just squeeze it in from the bottle.
if anyone has any additions or corrections, please contribute, because i haven't finished my coffee yet and i'm 1/2 asleep.

If you have the service manual go and find:
23A-12: front transfer case oil (~0.5 L of GL-5 SAE 80)
25-3: Front propeller shaft yoke (same oil, volume "as required")
27B-4: Rear differential oil (same oil as above, ~0.5 L)
As all three places require the exact same oil, I suppose they will change them all at the same time. I will do the CVT oil replacement at 48K (km).
Hope this info helps.
O.K, thanks for the info. I was just asking if its a normal procedure that had to be done at the KM range. I won't do it myself, maybe next time when I read more about it.
I wanted to get everything done before a road trip on NYE as we're heading to Pittsburgh with the family.

THIS is why you do it yourself. less than $15 for 2 bottles of fluid (unless Mitsu uses some special expensive stuff?), and getting dirty for a little bit.
have a safe drive, get a Primanti Bros. sandwich.
