g'dang, I'm hoping we can move the meet to the other every other Wed (if that makes sense). I seriously have a meeting at work tomorrow and every other week at pretty much the same time.
Hey all… I got a new job in downtown Seattle. (by 4th and Madison).
We don't like living in large cities, and are looking outside the area for the best commute (train, car, etc) / low crime / decent sized house to rent. Any areas pop out in mind? We were thinking Renton, since it's close to the central link light rail. I heard east side is silly, since you're forced to use 1 of 2 bridges. And heard that the Sounder from up north sucks because of mud slides and the frequency isn't very high.
Any help would be appreciated.

if you live in renton live north of exit 6 on 405. south of there starts getting sketchy
the advantage of living on the west side of the lakes (seattle-side) is that there are a lot of buses that can get you where you need it
on the east-side, anywhere north of what you can see in this picture https://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&l...68636&t=h&z=12 would be decent. if you want a house i'd try for bellevue / lake hills / newcastle / north renton (kennydale area) / mercer island (probably more expensive)
in seattle you're on your own, i dont know the neighborhoods there well enough to suggest anything that's not further north (meaning commuting directly through seattle)

Yah I don't want to live IN Seattle. I heard the commute from the east sucks, so figured that'd be out. I was sort of considering bainbridge island and west and doing the ferry deal, since it drops within walking distance of where I'd be working.
Also, would like to avoid buses, just not a fan of buses in general.
How is the commute coming from the North?

I used to commute from Mill Creek to Ballard for 2 years and some days it took an hour by car and some took 25 min. Just depends on the day. So the commute from up north isnt too bad. I would check Shoreline, Edmonds, Ballard and North Seattle area. I used to live in Edmonds and miss that area. Nice little city on the water.

I'd preferably live North over South, but that's just me. My sister lives in a house in Ballard and it is definitely a nice area. I'm not sure if that is far enough out of the city for you.
For taking any sort of semblance of a rail, you'd want to be South.

North is nicer (until you get to/past Lynnhood), South is cheaper.
Ballard is an absolute nightmare for commuting *unless* you take the bus (and even then... kinda sucks).

I'm down for cheaper. I mean how ghetto is the south? Gang bangers everywhere or just a little more run down with an occasional jaywalker?
I have a stealth Perrin exhaust on my X, should I go back to stock?

some interesting places Souf of 90 on the Eastside as well, but it usually starts a little farther South than the Seattle side. There are decent places on the Renton side. You do need to realize that when it is time for everyone to leave work the 405-520-405-90 nightmare begins on the eastside anyway. I assume it is pretty bad on the Seattle side too.
There are owners down in the Renton area, and I think there is some sort of rail service if you live out in Auburn (don't quote me on that), but I don't think I've seen any of those owners speak up.

. Yah I really don't want to mess with the East side. I've heard nothing but issues for commute, especially without some sort of train.
